Our '01 V70, with 75K miles on it, is beginning to exhibit symptoms of what may be an ETM failure: "Performance Reduced" message, rough idling, unable to accelerate, CEL, and engine messages. Car will reset with key off for 10 minutes.

Do I have to wait for it to fail once-and-for-all or can I take it to the dealer and they'll be able to pull codes on the car's recent behavior?

I appreciate any feedback.

Yeah, but be prepared to pay.
I had a CEL light this week and my local Volvo dealer wanted to charge me an hour shop time to slap on the OBD and give me a reading.

Give me a break!
Not for an ETM, that is covered, (including diag.) besides he has all the syptoms

Re: ETM Codes Stored? (Steely)

hears another input. 2 weeks ago received letter from Volvo abot the new ETM warranty. Last week, bingo ETS comes on engine would not rev/idle right.
Waited 10 minutes, tried again everything worked as usuall. CEL did light up,
but after a days driving it reset its self. Took it my indie (V-shop, Portland, OR)
they pulled the codes (for free). ECM9160, ECM9150 ECM720. All are internal
ETM faults. So I made a trip to my dealer, showed them the letter and said we this car to 100%. They did replace it, checked software in the ECU, no hassle.
I informed them that ETM was cleaned at 60K, so they skipped that , just replaced it. BTW milage is 68K, right on time.
good luck
