... instead of passenger airbag.
Hear me out first, my girlfriend is five-foot nothing and hates airbags because she thinks it will kill her or do more damage. Soooo... remove it and put in a flip up screen or mount a laptop computer maybe with a DVD player... or just a screen and a Playstation 2. I would consider using that hole air bag area, however much space is in there plus the glovebox to get something cool! Just brainstorming for the future.
What do you guys think?

it is possible..
although 5 foot nothing isn't short enough to get you killed.
as long as you don't sit too close to the front you'll be fine.
I would have to say that with the screen installed you'll have a much higher chance of getting killed because of distraction
but its totally possible, that area is big enough for a 15" screen

Re: Entertainment system... (xtremepsionic)

yeah, she pulls her chair up fairly close and likes it positioned upright (wear a lot of us guys recline it back), she is up pretty close. I'm not convinced it would kill her but I might play along to rip out that stuff and install some entertainment! I have the car paid off next month in full so I'm now making plans to butcher it! Maybe with this and a aftermaket sunroof I could see myself keeping the car for a very long time and let my insurance drop once my driving record clears up. (I've lost my liscense once because of points loss, insurance is raping me). Buying a newer turbo would make things very expensive, I'm thinking about maybe a mortgage next year instead of renting so I'm trying to lay all my options down and go for the right move. Tweaking the old girl out a bit and not having any car payment to worry about might be the way to go. New suspension and some interior mods for enjoyment would be a good place to start!
Besides how cool would it be to have a 15" screen up front!

Re: Entertainment system... (Spearzy)

yah I know, I change my mind every 30 seconds on whether to keep or sell it!! But I've eaten enough Kraft dinner to keep a car when I first bought this one and don't want to go through that again. Money is always ultamitely the deciding factor. I really want a new Vo, but, the cost is to great at the moment. Hard for us young bucks to buy a new Volvo these days...

yeah, anything that is more fun to drive than your 850 will cost a lot... not to mention insurance.
pay off your house first, then think about cars, unless you plan on living in your car
it is sooo much cheaper to modify your car to make it drive better than to get a new car. You know even with a new car you'll be itching to upgrade it futher, so for your pocket's sake you should keep your car
how much does a sun roof go for btw.. I wouldn't mind getting it either.
I think I'll get these 16" rims I talked about, and some koni shocks. If I can get a good deal off the shocks that is.

Yep, I tend to agree.
You mentioned those were Jaguar rims! Have any pics yet? I bet they would be pretty classy. Koni shocks would be one of the best, although I hear they are one of the stiffest rides too. I personally would not mind the stiff ride.
I looked up some aftermarket sunroof makers on the net and depending on what type of sunrooof you purchase they seem to be about $500-1500, presumably USD. The OEM 850 roof would be more of the $1200-1500 designs. Not a bad investment though, I think the car would ultimately sell for more money with it so it isn't a total loss like other mods.
My roommates 850 has one and I wish mine does, it makes the interior look less gloomy and well lit. Not to mention you can crack it open in a down-pour rain instead of having the windows all up and rely solely on the air vents (which fog things up in humid weather). Seems worth while to me!

Re: Entertainment system... (Spearzy)

haha, the rims might look a little funny on a 850 tho, since its more boxy than sexy
about the sun roof, it might or might not increase the vehicles value
if people know its been done aftermarket instead of OEM, they might actually think your car is worth less because it is prone to leak... etc.
but I would like a sun roof tho........ hmmm
probably won't get it since the price is so high.

They say those problems with leaky sunroofs were a problem in the 70's but the new ones are good.
I think down the line I might risk it.

This would be perfect, click see all on the flip screen one!
For the sunroofs I typed in "aftermarket sunroofs" in the http://www.dogpile.com brouser. Plenty of links there!
