Leaning towards purchasing a used one. From what I've seen here, people seem to think 2003 or newer is the way to go.
A couple of questions:
1) What problem areas should I look out for when buying a used one?
2) Must have options for me are the integrated child booster seats and the 40/20/40 split rear seat. I know the second is fairly common, but how about the first? Will I have a hard time finding that in a used XC70?
3) Prefer to have options are Bi-Xenon lights, DTSC, 4C suspension. Can anyone offer any insight as to what year these options became available?
4) 4C sounds great to me, what do owners think of it?
5) Any advice or other comments are appreciated.
6) Oooops almost forgot. If you bought new, what % off retail were you able to negotiate?
Thanks in advance for any and all answers. They're greatly appreciated.
Re: eLooking to purchase an XC70 (Watchdog)

Actually they phased out the 40-20-40 seat early on, hard to get (I think)

Just check for the warranty history of that car and if it has been in any accidents. Drive it extensively and, if possible, find a loose surface area where you can test the AWD system.

Quote »

2) Must have options for me are the integrated child booster seats and the 40/20/40 split rear seat. Now, if you find a car that has them that is fine but I believe the regular lights are better (in high-beam) than the bi-xenons. DSTC? It will be impossible to find one as most dealers never ordered XC70s with DSTC. 4C? It will be even harder to find one with 4C. If it has 4C (has to be MY05 or newer), the car will also have DSTC as that was a prerequisite for 4C.

Quote »

4) 4C sounds great to me, what do owners think of it?

It is OK. If you have been turned on to 4C because of the R Forum, then that 4C system is more aggressive (in its reactions) than that found on the XC70s.
Yannis

Re: eLooking to purchase an XC70 (GrecianVolvo)

Yannis why do you say I won't find a car that combines the integrated child booster seats with the 40/20/40 split. There are several in the dealer showrooms with that combination.
My wife really liked the Ocean Race Edition and in Canada anyway they combine the two. At least #80 which is the one we saw combined both.
Are you saying the older ones do not combine them? If so, perhaps we should get a new one and save ourselves some time, though it will be more costly.

But if you want to spend the extra money, then get a new or even newer one. Aren't there any 2006 moels that have the features you want? I am sure you can get a good deal on a 2006 left over.
Yannis

If I were going to get a brand new Volvo, I would definitely take advantage of the Over-seas Delivery option and make a Swedish vacation out of it...something for you and your wife to consider!!
