Electronic Parking Brake Reset

Hej -

I got a warning on my 2013 S60 T5 recently that the parking brake needed service. Since I never use the parking brake I wasn't concerned. Then after a few weeks it became "Parking Brake is not fully retracted" and it would beep nonstop so annoyingly I couldn't drive the car. So I took off both rear wheels and removed the EPB connectors and sure enough one of the actuators was busted - applying volage to it did nothing AND it was leaking some kind of fluid.

I just replaced both actuators after I manually retracted both calipers using a T40. So eveything is good, except for the "Parking Brake is not fully retracted" warning is still there and the beeping.

I'd love to not have to go to a dealer or shop to have the EPB reset. Does anybody know how to do that - or if there's a tool that does it?

Thx!

Thanks I tried setting/resetting the brake many many times with no luck. I also tried disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, but I should probably try it again now that the piston is fully retracted.

I appreciate the replies but I'm looking for a known good tool that will perform this particuar function. I'll buy whichever one I need to, but I want to know in advance it will work. Thx.

You need VIDA. This is what we’ve already prescribed. Find someone with a DiCE unit and a copy of VIDA on a laptop.

A copy of VIDA for use as diagnostics and fault troubleshooting can be found for free here on Swedespeed. The only reason you pay for subscription is to download software to upgrade modules.

You still need an interface though. A DiCE clone or other type of interface to connect the laptop to the OBD on the car.

Every Volvo user really needs to have these if you aren’t going to be going to a dealer.
