Getting my down pipe and exhaust installed today. On my lunch break I went to see how everything was going. I began shooting the breeze with my mechanic and we got on the subject of cut outs. He thinks it is entirely possible to put in a cut out.
I am thinking about doing this and I know there was a thread awhile ago on this. I wanted to see if there would be any interest among us for it because he could make several kits at the same time. Post if interested and I will find out more pricing later today when I go back to talk with him.
The kit would be for the Evolve exhaust. Not sure on the others.
Edit: The cut out would be on the section coming back after the down pipe. I will take pictures of what I am trying to explain. Sorry for any confusion. I will clear this up once I leave work with pics.

Re: Electronic cut out (Rangeball)

would this really make more power? the exhaust - behind the downpipe isnt' all that restrictive is it? the cat is probably the biggest choke point and that is BEFORE where you're planning on adding the cutout...

ATP Turbo makes a boost activated "cut-out"...I ordered one, but it's on 4-5 week backorder...No electronics to fuss with, just tap 1 vac. line, install the cut-out, and your set.

so would this ATP turbo cutout also "just make sound" or would it make any actual power?
out of curiosity - why would anyone want a boost activated cut out that every time you hit full boost yoru car becomes most likely "illegally" loud.... it's jsut asking to get pulled over and hassled...

If you want to "set" when it opens, just get a MBC off ebay for $20, put it in-line....If you don't feel like being loud that day, "turn up" the controller...if you want to be loud, set it at your pre-determined boost level.....I think they are set from ATP to open at 5lbs.

How would a cutout affect the tuning?
Theoretically, the exhaust flow would be different when the cutout is open vs closed... would that create a tuning issue?

Cut out

Electric cutout is the way to go. Open it at the drag strip or road course for more power and close for the nice quiet ride home!

It would allow exhaust to flow more freely, which may lead to a 1 to 2 hp gain. Mainly it would just be a lot louder. It's use would primarily be for the track where the loudest exhaust wins. J/k.

Quote, originally posted by R_Rated »

i thought about this for a second.....lol, if you hit full boost long enought to get picked out you are prolly going to get a speeding ticket too.
there has been a hostile mood on SS lately.... i hope this post is not taken in that light

I am offended... I kid, I kid. I am headed to Savannah to get my NX kit installed along with my Aquamist. I definitely plan on going back to the track as soon as I get the car tuned with the nitrous in about a month or less.
When is the next time you plan on being in the neighborhood?

people on VS have had mixed reviews regarding the QTP cutout.
anyway, get some clips and pics when you get it installed! ive checked clips of evos/sti's with cutouts and they sound wonderful and since our engine sounds a little better [imo] than either of those cars...well..
i'm assuming it'll be welded in? becuase clamps = tacky
if it sounds good and works well, i'll definitely do one when i get my DP installed and exhaust redone.
