The 240 with power windows would normally have different front armrests that house a switch panel. You could mount the switches on the center console, but I would probably just add newer style armrests from a 242. There's one extra screw that holds the armrest to the door on the power windows version, so you'll need to cut a small hole in the armrest and attach the armrest. The other two screws should line up. You also need the window regulators w/motors from another 242, plus the wiring and relay.

Another option from those days for retrofitted power windows was a set of rocker switches in the center console. I've seen a number of these in the salvage yard. The rear passenger window switches (in 4-door cars) were mounted on an extension box on top of the parking brake console.

I don't know for sure, but the 242 has longer doors, and therefore longer windows. The mounting points for the regulators might not match up if they're from a 244/5.

The power window controls for the 79 GT were located in the centre console. I sold the same car about 6 months ago. It had factory power windows and they were located on opposite ends of the console. It had the same armrests as any other 242 but with a black plug where the window crank would normally go.

Hope this helps!

I did an electric window conversion on my GT. I took the regulators and harness from a 245GL and modified the harness to go to the handbrake console. I used a newer console with the seat heater switch blanks and put switches in them. It looks really nice, and it allowed me to keep my door panels intact in case I ever want to bring it back to its original form. I did power locks at the same time. Good luck!

On my 79 GT the switches were on the centre console. The Drivers side switch was in the leftmost position and the passenger side was in the rightmost position.

To be absolutley clear, they are on the same panel as the Demist and Fog Light switches.
