To all P1800philes...
Has anyone ever heard of someone converting a P1800E or ES to electric?
I considered spending $4,000 to $5,000 to get a good engine rebuild for my sick baby, and then it occurred to me that it would be really cool to have an electric ES.
Don't know about weight ratios, etc. but it seemed like under the deck would be a great place to put a bunch of batteries.

It would certainly be possible, but it just depends on what you want to use the car for, and how much you want to spend. With current battery technology and prices, you're only going to get a range of about 30 miles or so.

Re: (caliwagon)

This is a cruise around on the weekend car. I will never take it somewhere and leave it where I can't see it!
The biggest challenge would be converting everything over and getting mounts made that are strong enough to withstand the torque generated by a motor that has a decent amount of acceleration.
As the demand for lithium ion batteries grows, the price will come down and the range will increase. Hopefully they'll find a way to keep them from exploding!
I have another ES and a 1996 850. In 20 or so years when they start phasing out internal combustion engines, I want at least one of my beautiful "dinosaurs" to be a little ahead of the curve.
