For an EGT probe, wheres the best place to put and the easiest way to get to it. From what I understand, the closer to the head, the better. I've read that you can drill and tap one of the runners on the manifold, but I don't see this being an easy prospect on the R.
Also, where to tap for a good oil pressure reading?
EDIT: Just found this via search.
http://forums.swedespeed.com/z...03498
From what I get out of it, you can pull the factory sensor, replace it with a T fitting and then put the OEM sensor and new gauge sensor in either end of the T?
If you can explain it to me, great. If you got pics, even better!
Appreciate the help!
Rue

On my car I just remove the stock sensor and got a fitting made at the local machine shop.
Stock sender is unpluged and just tiewrapped up and new sendor and fitting are in its spot.
Whats wired I always viewed is I dont get a low oil light warning thou ???
Best thing to do for the EGT is remove the manifold and have it tapped and done that way .
If you had a FWD car you could just tap it from below

Re: (Chilled Man)

Ugh, not sure I want to go through the trouble of removing the manifold just to install a gauge. Seems like an awful lot of work.
So you have no messages in the DIM with the stock sensor removed? Seems kind of odd.
Is it possible to just make a T adaptor from parts from Home Depot/Lowe's?
Rue

well I dont have a P2 only a 98-00 cars.
Cant really make one from lowes or HD just due to most dont sell the metric to standard adapter.
You dont have to remove the manifold but it might be the easiest way .... not sure I am putting a S60R mani in mine so just having it tapped for the sensor before it goes in.

The S60R manifold is the impacted plankton filled dung of a 19 year old Basking Shark

But in other than the stocker, what choice do we have? AFAIK, there isn't enough room for anything else (IIRC, SvR amongst others tried).
-Steve
Once I get juve's gauge goober, (or finally man up and attempt to learn all that electrimical shtuff and build it myself! ) I was planning on incorporating an EGT. If it really is this complimicated to do, oye...I may skip it and just run an AFR. I know, I should have both if possible, but yeah...

Yeah, this was part of my problem when installing my oil temp gauge, I was planning on installing the probe to do EGT too but, 1) I wasn't comfortable on messing with the manifold so I thought, ok on the dp somewhere (I know it wouldn't give the most accurate measurements but....better than nothing) but then 2) the EGT probe wires were too short to reach where I needed them to. So I just scrapped the idea for now.
But yeah, I'd go with mounting it on the DP if you dont' mind a not 100% accurate reading. Also, I already have the circuitry setup for the EGT gauge so that part is already working with my OLED display setup. I feel like you want me to make you one!!

Re: (juve021)

Oh, you are a good salesman LOL but first I need to figure out where the damn probe can go. I'm not worried about drilling and tapping anything, but GETTING to it is the problem. I'd like to get it pre-turbo if at all possible.
Can someone please tell me what can all be pulled from the OBD2 on our R's? If you can pull EGT, Oil temp/press, intake temps, etc, I make just invest in one of those PLX Devices OBD2 gauges. I know we can't pull boost off, but that's an easy sensor install (even easier when you have it done already!)
Rue

That's PRECISELY what I want to do with his gauge goober as well!!! I was also thinking about a second juve OLED thingy outputting to the Bluepower HU, once ver 2.0 hits the streets... Linky where all his OLED goodness is hiding...
-Steve

Re: (FORD420diesel)

It's a sweet OLED display, but it's needs to be bigger for me to even consider it! I do prefer an analog gauge though with a sweeping needle (even if the OLED gauge is made to look analog).
What can we pull off the OBD2 now?
Rue

I hear ya; that's my idea as well... Read through that other thread, I stated all that (pretty much the exact same thing you're advocating) in there. In short, I completely agree with what you're saying!!
-Steve

Re: (Rues R)

ask Phuz or LTA, they're running the palmer software and can get a lot of stuff from OBD

But I don't think all of those PIDs are supported
--------------
on a semi related note, you can do something similar to what I am planning to do ( and probably will never finish):
just tap the car's sensors electrically. I got inspired by vlvman's awesome post (and also juve's OLED awesomeness) and get something like this

and read it with an old laptop format it in any gauge java applet of your liking and pipe it through the imiv to the NAV screen
time is tight, so I don't know how many eons it would take me to complete this "project", but in principle it should work
I plan to log/display IAT and Boost, the usb board thingie is about $30, $15 if you buy in bulk

Re: (FORD420diesel)

EGT is great. I am just saying that the stock manifold is so bad it is crazy. I thought that there
was a new manifold from ATP turbo for only $395?

Its not the mani that sucks it the volvo heads that dont flow more then a fart fan.
So even though you have a great exhuast mani the head still is the largest restrictor on your car.
So putting in the ATP mani is basiclly for show and not much else

Re: (Chilled Man)

Very much agree about head it is crap.I could not ever disagree more in my life about the manifold. It is massive important and the stock is the dirty smelly foul rotten droppings of a sickly half eaten sea turtle. Anything is better except maybe the one from the 850 turbo. Repeat they are horrible almost a complete wall at a 90 degree angle
