Hello everyone,

I live in Germany and I own a 1990 740 GL with B230F engine and LH2.4. Injection. Unfortunately, my 561 ECU has quit working and the car does not start since I last turned the engine off.

I have read that the 561 ECU is not the most reliable one. Does anyone know which ECU types are the most reliable ones? Can anyone tell me, if I can use another ECU model?

Would be great, if someone is able to help me out.

How much do you pay in the US for a redone ECU or for having it repaired? I have no clue, what these prices might be in the US.

Thanks

Re: ECU Bosch No. 561 (gdill2)

Hello George,

thank you for your reply. The list is exactly what I´ve been looking for. It says that I can use a 951 instead of my 561. I read in the maintenance FAQ, that the 951 is also more reliable.

It would be great, if you found out some prices for me.

Thanks

Tobias

Re: ECU Bosch No. 561 (gdill2)

Hey George,

thanks for your help. I´ve bought a used 951 from a Volvo enthusiast over here in Germany and the car runs just fine. And it runs even faster than before. The 951 is Bosch´s direct successor to the 561 and you can just replace your 561 with a 951 via "plug-and-play". The 951 is both more reliable and has a better engine management software.
So, upgrading to a 951 is a good investment.

Next month, my Volvo has to go through the 2-yearly safety and technical check, which is mandatory in Germany. I hope they won´t find any serious problems.

Regards

Tobias
