So I finally got my hands on the Eaton M62 from the SLK Benz, and the goal is installing it on my 2.4i. What exactly am I getting into?
All suggestions are accepted lol

Re: (HaZed)

First thing you need to do is find out what kind of power the 2.4i's internals can handle. Then you need to figure out how to manage the engine electronically - supercharger aside, those will be your highest expense. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: (Revolve40)

I asked Evolve about this a few years ago, and Don said that the entire engine would most likely need to be rebuilt to handle it. The 2.4 internals are not that strong apparently. I am sure anyone at the other Volvo tuning companies (IPD, Heico, Viva Performance) would say the same thing.

I hope you didn't pay benz prices for that blower. Especially when you could have paid GM prices.
And I have no idea what is all involved with tuning Volvos, but on most things you're going to need a wideband, and a way to adjust timing and fuel. You're probably also going to want a larger diameter exhaust, a good machine shop to make you a proper manifold that will fit to your head, allow your charger pulley to line up with your accessories, and still fit under the hood (I think you are going to have clearance issues...) and as mentioned a lot of time, patience, and money. You might also want to save some more money to get a T5 as well, because odds are, unless you are great at tuning, and have some luck.... kaboom!
Good luck, and I'd love to see this done, with progress pics.

Re: Eaton M62 Supercharger (heico2.4i)

Oh dear, hope you have a pretty solid mechanical background and have the appropriate funds to get this project done.
First you will need to find a fabricator you trust and that does reputable work because from the looks of this blower you will need a custom intake manifold and have to ditch the one you currently have.
The blower will have to be mounted pretty much where the factory airbox is so that the pulley can sit inline with the other belts. Obviously a custom belt will have to be sourced.
The intake manifold could probably used the factory flange and injector housing however have to be chopped and have a new plenum fabricated which will house the flange for the charger. It will no longer sit on top of the head but right in front.
From there a custom intake and throttle body flange will have to be made to suit the factory components including misc. vacuum lines.
Tuning you will have to rely on some sort of basemap or custom tune via the available loaders. Otherwise can do what im going to do and use a AEM EMS and hard wire in a splice harness to run your tune and the stock ECU to run its appropriate features and the CAN system.
All of which shouldnt be cheap and require excessive downtime. Hope you have another source of transportation as jobs like these rarely go smoothly and have numerous headaches/obstacles.
The factory ecu has been hacked to poop for a while now, just find a tuner to retune it, no need for a standalone.
You need a custom intake manifold. You need to remake the whole thing to take the supercharger. I dont think the belts a big deal.

You will need a true dyno/street tune to make sure ALL bugs are worked out of it which will leave no room for error.
What we are lookin into doing is buying a universal AEM EMS which can usually be found for around 700$ give or take. Then just matching up the pin out diagrams from the EMS to the stock ecu and basically going to splice the necessary inputs away from the stock ecu to the EMS. Thus the stock ecu is still in place and will have all its normal functions and signal inputs required to have normal operation. However the EMS will actually fire the injectors, control cam timing, etc necessary to tune the car
The ecu is a major module in the CAN network. Unfortunately it cant be removed without possibly taking down the entire network. Without CAN the majority of your vehicle functions will be inop and a lot of times will put the car to sleep or just shut down all together as a safety procaution.
For more research on the CAN system you can google it and should find a lot of info. Doesnt exactly relate to your OP but doesnt hurt to look into every aspect of a project

Re: Eaton M62 Supercharger (heico2.4i)

If You Look at Older Ford Focus -( Escorts )- Kits they were Boosting 5 psi on the Ford Escorts , the Inside of those Engine were - Not Beefy as the Volvo. I Don't Believe They Used a Stand alone Tuner Either . ECU should and try and Keep a Certain Fuel Ratio , with the Wide Band -O2 .
The Dam Wireless Throttle Bodies - might be the Devil .
I wish they never put those things on Cars .
Seems like a Cable Works Just Fine , with the Butter Fly Position Sensor and Boost Sensor - Being Way Up Stream of the Valves & Injectors .
( SO ) Plenty of Time.
Never Made any Since to Me .

Considering what I have read on earlier versions of the B5244S4(2.4i) such as the B5244T3(V70/C70 2.4L) it is a decent engine and should handle minor increases up to 250-300hp without worrying.

This sounds like a fascinating project, the only thing stopping me is lack of a supercharger. I have access to casting and machining facilities, let me know if I can help with your intake manifold/flange R&D.

Yeah i was scopin out a 2.4i today and its totally doable just wouldnt recommend someone takin on the challenge without advanced mechanical skill and money to back up the project. Seen way to many projects start and end due to lack of funds to complete it

Re: (heico2.4i)

I would say, utilize the stock lower aluminum runners, just ported and polished, with a plenum welded to the top, with the supercharger mounted either on top of the engine, or on top of the runners themselves, depending on the design of the plenum.
http://www.e30tech.com/forum/s...45839
good thread on supercharger-ing^

Re: (sanatarium)

Also, if you wanted it intercooled, you could mount the supercharger to the right a little(if looking at the engine) and run a boost hose down to a T5 FMIC and back up on the right to the stock TB location. However, runners that long are probably not necessary on a supercharged engine. Another option would be to use the T5 intake manifold and TB
On intercooling versus straight inlet http://www.lextreme.com/icvsnic.htm
