Does the Trunk Light turn on when a person opens the trunk lid?
Or Does the Trunk Light have to be turned on/off by rotary switch under rear deck?

Re: Dumb 850 Trunk Light ??? (robert213)

I know the wagon turns on when the hatch is opened, I would assume it would be the same for the other body styles

All I know is that I opened the small flip-down panel in the rear seat flip-down to access the trunk. The light in the trunk was "ON", even though the trunk lid was closed. I turned the light "OFF" on the rotary switch on the light assembly.
I guess that I have been very lucky to not have fully drained my battery.

I believe the rear trunk light has a wheel on it to adjust the aforementioned mercury switch. It controls what angle the switch activates at. Open your trunk partway and fiddle with the rotary mechanism until it turns on when it is most of the way open, but off when it is halfway closed.
I've had to adjust it a few times in Volvo's parked on a hill, since the angle of the car affects the angle of the balance switch independent of the trunk angle -- sometimes if you're parked facing uphill the light won't activate if it's not adjusted just so!

I will do as you suggest.
All I know is that the light was staying "ON" even when the trunk lid was closed and the car was parked on my level garage floor.
Some of you guys may wish to check that your light goes "OFF" when your trunk lid is closed. I have no idea how many months that my trunk light has been permanently "ON".
