I'm planning on getting a V40 soon, I did want to get a V70 but the cost was too great. Feature creep was becoming a problem as I started off at a V40 then to a 2.4 V70 then soon I'm looking at a XC. Didn't need all the space right away either. Now I'm getting a table saw instead as consolation.

What exactly is the optional DSA?

I assume that its a traction control system that applies braking to the spinning wheel, but is there any more information on it? How does it compare to the STC on the V70?

DSA works by cutting the amount of torque that is sent to the wheels. This in turn is done by cutting the amount of fuel injected in 16 stages, until the ABS sensors don't detect any difference in rotation of the front wheels.

Personally, I've found DSA to work predominantly on the type of car you order. It works quite well in a 1.8 or 2.0 litre car but I've had a 2.0T and T4 and its totally useless in those. If traction control is what you're after, then RACELOGIC is what you want (www.racelogic.co.uk). I know someone who has racelogic fitted to his heavily modified T5 and was quite happily driving around on virtually slick tyres (the threads had completely worn off), even in wet weather. That attests to the effectiveness of the system. Its next on my wishlist too.

I just spent the winter commuting between Toronto & Aurora without DSA but with very good snow tires. I had no problems at all. Never once wished I had something that does the same thing as me taking my foot off the throttle.
