all I have to say is: wow.
let's back up:
Hi. new member, first post, but I read through the whole forum yesterday doing research on the R. I've got to admit that I hadn't heard of the R until about a week ago when my friend suggested it.
I'm in the market for a new sedan and was looking at A4/S4's, C230 Kompressors, and the S60 R.
After driving the R last night, let's say that my mind has been pretty made up. I fell in love with the car. I'm no racer, the car I'm driving now is a 1999 Ford Contour SE that's about to die, and I think that the R is a massive upgrade in quality and performance.
Can I ask some of the board members that read this to just see if I'm getting a good deal? note that the car is in pristine condition, I haven't seen the maintenance records, but the engine bay just has a light coating of dust and the interior looks brand new.
04 S60 R
33,000 miles
18" wheels
CD changer
100K mi bumper to bumper extended warranty
Wheel warranty (I guess if the wheels ever break something)
Lo-Jack
brand new sumitomo Z rated tires
is $27K a fair price for this car?
thanks for your help and hopefully I'll be posting in here more often as an owner soon enough

I just bought a v70R last week. 35K miles, titanium gray. We paid $29.5 and I thought I got a good deal. I drove it from PA to WA and am very glad I bought the car. Go for it. It has an awesome warranty and is a very exclusive car (I'm pretty confident there aren't more than 1 or 2 in my town). It was an absolute pleasure driving it 3K miles in 4 days. Best car I've owned to date.

With the extended warranty and wheel warranty the price is about were it should be. I would try to get it for $25k but thats just me.

Welcome. I have done some research for you and 24,000-25,000 w/out the body package (valances, spoiler and side skirts) W/ the body package 25,000-26,000 would be fair if it is in as great of condition as you say. Just my 2c's, rick.

I just picked up my 2004 S60R with 50k miles for $21,000 - smoking deal. Miles are a little high, but interior and exterior are in great shape. Needs brakes and wheel refinishing - but alltogether a great car for the price. (Climate package and premium package with 18" Pegasus wheels)
Thanks for the tips on the wheel rub, crappy turning radius, and TNNs!

Re: Drove an 04 S60 R last night (considering buying) also: Introductory post! (ysb)

Welcome and congratulations. Those sedans you listed are in very different performance categories, despite their similar sizes. S4 aside, the R would be the best performing of the bunch, and for much less than the S4.
Also, if you do go the route of the R check to see if it's VIN fell into the steering column recall on some 04 S60's.
I would see if you can get him to come off the price a bit, it does seem a little high. The residuals on these things stink and their resale value disappears faster than a cake in front of a fat kid.

I've ridden or driven in the other cars and the R is a great combo of performance and luxury.
Thank you everyone for your time. I'm welcoming all input on this.

So it seems to me, setting aside geographical issues, that your price is fair, especially considering that it is cpo. There appears to be some smoke blowing around here based on a few good deals that implies any asking price over $23k is a rip-off; I don't buy it. Compared to original msrp, there has been a big drop; over all, they're still upper-middle market cars.
Get all records, have an indie mechanic look at it, try to get contact info for the original owner, then make the best decision you can with all of the information that you have. They're good cars, a little idiosyncratic, but good cars that don't really have an equal in price/performance/safety/features/quality ratios.
Good luck.
