Just to follow up on this thread, http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=57344, here are the settings you can choose in VIDA for your DRLs (using an 05 S60 R). The settings are in VIDA under diagnostics->CEM->daytime running lamps. There are 3 different DRL status and 3 different DRL functions:

DRL status:
1) Always on
2) Activated by sensor
3) Off

DRL function:
1) Low beam in all switch positions except parking lamp position (Flex zero)
OFF postion: Parking and DRL or Bi-Xenon are activated based on signal from twilight sensor
Parking lamps: Only parking lamps
ON position: Parking and Bi-Xenon lamps on

2) Light switch works as follows: Off, Parking Lamps and Low Beam (Flexstd)
OFF position: DRLs activated, if twilight sensor reads insufficient light, all lighting is switched off
Parking lamps: Only parking lamps
ON position: Parking and Bi-Xenon lamps are activated

3) Low beam always on regardless of the position of the light switch (Flex low)
OFF position: Parking and DRLs or Bi-Xenons activated based on signal from twilight sensor
Parking lamps: Parking and Bi-Xenons are activated
ON: Parking and Bi-Xenons are activated

If that isn't confusing enough, not all functions will work with each lamp status. (ex. If you choose DRL status Off, you will not be able to select a DRL function).

Just wanted to show that the DRLs can be turned off in VIDA (did not require a software download), and you can choose different settings if you do choose to use them.

It also specifically states you cannot change the programming in the Canadian market.

Re: DRL settings (I Roll)

So, does it say the same thing for '04s? (its in German here, can't read it).

I think dealer did make mine option 3, off, because that is exactly how my DRL Bulb Failure message appears, only in 0 position when light sensor says bright enough to turn xenons off. In no other position or lighting condition does DRL want to come on, generating bulb failure message.

So the key is then deactivating the automatic light sensor after you select option 3. With that turned off, the system will not ever try to turn my DRLs (which aren't there) on. That is what they did to Denny's '04 and Bob's '05. Their DRLs are NEVER on, and neither has auto feature in 0 position.

Also, for US Spec S60Rs, do your DRLs stay on when your xenon low-beams come on?

Re: DRL settings (I Roll)

Apparently my wagon is against the norm because my dealer tried all the functions to turn of my parking lights (NOT DRLs, I like them on) and couldn't get them off. If you have any input as to how to get the parking lights off, I'm all ears.

Actually mine too Mike. I was told by VolvoNA that several months of R's have different software versions and my 05 was one of them.
So I placed Xenon bulbs in my DRL's and like them now...in fact I would not turn them off!

I only wish they had not sealed that bloody orange reflector in the headlight assembly. So tempted to send Kelly money before he leaves for Team USA.

No, it's not the DRLs I'm talking about. It's the stupid corner/parking lamps that I can't turn off. According to what I Roll posted, you should be able to turn them off using the flex modes, but I can't.

I personally like the DRLs.

Sorry, I did not have time to plug in different model years or to try the Vs and see if they came up with anything different. I do know that a buddy at work has an '05 VR and he was also able to select the DRL off status.

As far as your euro lights go, does Chris get the same bulb failure message since he has installed the euro lights? Maybe we can see what settings are selected for his V.

No, you cannot have both on at the same time.

Mike, you can't.
The only way EVERYTHING (lights) will be off is to have the DRL's turned off

No, he doesn't. ArtVandelay doesn't either, both of them successfully disabled their DRLs before swapping.

My dealer tried, and ended up turning them to option 3. I think I just need to get my auto on feature disabled and I should be good.

Re: DRL settings (I Roll)

This may be one for the electrically smart people here.
Hypothetically speaking, if my dealer is unable to get the information to disable my DRL's I have another idea. I could just take the bulbs out but this would cause a warning message every time I start the car (which would annoy me greatly). What I am thinking is that the system must register some resistance from the bulb to know that it is not burnt out, so could it be as simple as figuring out what the resistance of the bulb is, ordering a resistor from radio shack and wiring it in to trick the car into thinking that there is a bulb present? Or is it possible that the car simply measures that there is a closed circuit? I am in no way electrically inclined so this may be way off and silly if so… Sorry for the dumb question.

Just had the DRLs turned off at Stamford Volvo for no charge. A much better/cleaner look, IMHO http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

When you mean they changed the software or changed one of the settings mentioned above?

My understanding is that the dealer simply changed my "DRL Status" to option #3 (as a FYI, I simply printed this thread and gave it to my service technician). I don't believe a software download is required...

That's correct, except for some of the earlier (if not all) 04 models judging by what others have posted. So if you have an 04 and you print out the options and ask your service advisor to change the settings, don't think they are lying to you if they say it is not that easy.

Kelly set them to FlexStd and put a tiny piece of electrical tape at the foot of ClimateMan in the CCM. Voila.

Off=off.
Park = park.
On = BiXenons.

No DRLs. This is how my car is set up.

Not sure if that will solve your bulb-failure idiot light but it will disable the DRLs on an '04. Regardless of light conditions.

So what if that means the DIM lighting is always on at twilight/night brightness levels. On the 04's the mirror dimming and twilight lighting sensors are independent. Not sure if the are on '05-.

Looks as if my old dealer gave me option #2 and incorrectly informed me it was option #3. This explains my confusion on the other thread.

Re: DRL settings (I Roll)

Decided to resurrect this very useful post, with some new, incredibly sought after information.

I have the correct software to disable '04 R DRLs.

Part # 30765420 EU LIGHT, NO DRL

My tech stayed late yesterday to find it, and had to haggle with someone to let him download it, but he did.

After 4 years of DRL Bulb failure message, I'm finally free.

BTW, if you don't want to spend the $ (cost me $26) for the software, you can do exactly what Stagg suggested and cover sensor (under vent man) with tiny piece of black electrical tape and set it to FlexStd in VIDA (that may cost you $ as well though).

Of course, I have nav system, so this wasn't optimal. Since car thought it was always dark, nav system would stay dim.

BUT, my car now realizes it has Eurolights, so I have all my functionality and no DRL error message during the day.

So you mean I can download this to my 04? and not have DRL on?!

Yes, worked brilliantly for me. If I understand correctly, it reprograms your car to think it has European headlights. Since there are no DRLs on EU lights, no DRLs.

Although, I actually have Eurolights, so I wonder if someone else would get High Beam bulb failure error message while high beams were on...
