2007 XC90 3.2 AWD. I have a pretty bad metallic clanking under acceleration. Took the car to the dealer and they diagnosed it as this: "Verified noise. Coming from center bearing on drive line. Bearing not serviceable, needs new driveline." They quoted me $1700 to do the job.

I am a decent mechanic. Is it true that the center bearing on my driveshaft can't be serviced? Should I find a used rear driveshaft at a junkyard? Get one from Colorado Drive Shaft?

Please give me some low cost options for fixing this myself. Thanks.

look around, I know the Porsche Cayenne had same failure and people had to replace the whole driveshaft, but now days there are companies making just the center bearing. I would look around and try calling some places.

Thanks guys. I may have a line on a used one from a 2011 XC90. Would that be interchangeable with my 2007 XC90?

Maybe. But maybe not.

Looks like drivelines are Chassis (last 6 digits of VIN) range specific:

Propeller shaft, CH -495000, PN 31256272
Propeller shaft, CH 495001-593214, PN 30783345
Propeller shaft, CH 593215-650000, PN 31325356
Propeller shaft, CH 650001-, PN 31367161

This is for XC90, B6324S5, TF-80SC AWD. NO idea as to what's different but if you want plug and play, match for 3.2 engine and chassis range and ought to work just fine.

Some one might be able to match chassis range with MY, I can guess by published sales numbers (see when yours was built, etc.) but you'll want to verify for sure it's fully compatible (range-wise) before you go to the trouble.

Good luck !

Make sure it's cost beneficial if you go the used route. I am having a similar dilemma with my dad's 98 v70. I'm probably going to go with one from Colorado cause even the used ones are a couple hundred and who knows what kind of condition they're in. If you can fit a 2011 though it might be worth it if the cost difference was significant.

I've been looking at propeller shaft part numbers online. The last 6 digits of my 2007 XC90 are 344326. The last 6 digits of the 2011 XC90 donor are 584589. Both are 3.2L AWD vehicles.

The propeller shaft part number on the 2011 vehicle *should* be 30783345, just going by the VIN. On volvopartswebstore.com, it shows 30783345 as fitting all 3.2L XC90 AWD vehicles 2007-2014. When I then clicked on the "2007" link for part 30783345, it printed out the green words "This genuine part fits your 2007 Volvo XC90 3.2l 6 cylinder."

So, I'm hopeful it will work. Point taken about benefit vs. cost. I got it cheap, so to me it's worth rolling the dice on this approach.

My bad, was looking at the 2011 parts list for the PN, did not go as far back as the 2007.

Revised my post above to reflect PN applicable for chassis number -495000 with XC90, B6324S5, TF-80SC AWD

Also went into VolvoPartsWebStore and did a search for PN 31266272 (Propeller shaft with mounting awd ( -2008 (30711838)); Propeller shaft with mounting AWD (CH -495000 (30711838), the 272 PN replaces the 838 PN. And I did a search for PN 30783345 (Propeller shaft with mounting awd ( 2009-); Propeller shaft with mounting AWD (CH 495001-593214). Tasca and Lisle reflect the same thing.

Just wanted to note it up front. If the driveline from a 2011 works, I'm really happy for you.
