Dropped my car off today to get cleaned out. Mainly have the carpets cleaned really well and that good stuff.
Just got a call from them saying that the seat is ALL THE WAY FORWARD and they can't get it back. Seems the fuse keeps popping (tried a couple apparently).
I've never had this problem. Any takers on what it is or what to look for? I'm 6'4" so I'm going to have to fix this problem before I can even get IN the car.

Re: Drivers' Seat Short? (Rues R)

Damn, that sucks, stick a paperclip in the fuse holder just to get the seat back if you have to, just to get home.
Did they shampoo the carpets or use anything that might have gotten moisture where it shouldn't be?

Sounds like a short or something. Could they have spilled water or some other cleaning liquid on the control?
-Eric

Re: Drivers' Seat Short? (Sue Esponte)

I suppose its possible they spilled some cleaning agent on the control. One would think that the most reputable place in town would be good about electronics on power seats etc.
I just took the car for service yesterday, and had to adjust the seat when I got it back, so I KNOW it worked.
Hopefully she will snap back to life...because I really don't have time to get it into service as I'm leaving on Monday for a LONG roadtrip...

Try this....
Replace the fuse, try to adjust the seat other than sliding it back. If all other functions seem to work then check the tracks out closely to see if there's a coin or something jammed in there preventing it from going back, and popping the fuse.
If there is something jammed in there it would not pop the fuse instantly. Would take a few seconds.
If it pops instantly then yes, there is a dead short somewhere and my guess is right at the seat since that is the area they were working.

I personally ran into this twice (on different cars).

Re: (Papa_Kirlo)

Not sure what was up with it. Couldn't even get a fuse in all the way, and it was blown. ALWAYS HOT.
So I pulled all the connections from the control unit, looked at and straightened all the wiring, then reconnected one at a time...and voila, no more short. Got the seat all the way back to where it needs to be.
Still need to check the wires again to make sure none of them have any bare spots, but the seat it working again.
Needless to say, still a bit confused as to why it did this.
Oh the R and its quirks!

Definitely dig into it sometime when you have the time. Something is shorting out for sure.
Make sure to disconnect the battery as you will get an airbag light if you mess up.

This way I have a valid reason for not letting anyone sit behind me haha
