Hi All. Recently, I have started getting a popping noise in the upper part of my drivers seat. I can hear and feel it usually going into turns right where my shoulders come into contact with the seat. I had a similar noise/feeling in a Passat that I owned, but, it had an adjustable headrest, and it turned out that the interior mechanism was loose. In the S80, I thought it was just the leather popping a bit, but now I am pretty sure something is loose inside the seat. Has anyone else noticed this or is this specific to my car? I will definitely ask the dealer about it when I go in for my 7500k service. This is the first "quality" issue that has surfaced in the car, but, it is really annoying. I am hoping that it will be a simple fix. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate hearing about them. Hope all you dads out there are enjoying Fathers Day.

Re: Drivers seat popping? (ImInPA)

Hello there. So you're in Harrisburg? How far from UPenn/Philly is that?
But as far as your seat - Volvo's do have some play in the seats that is attributed to the WHIPS (Whiplash system), so that may be giving you the popping sound you could be hearing. Also, you might have an issue with your lumbar support system. Or if you have ventilated seats, maybe some fan has a loose screw and pops out of its socket or such under pressure?
I personally have not noticed any such sound in my car, but there would be no harm in letting your service advisor know of the problem and have him/her look into it for you.
While you are at your 7500 mile service, you could also get the DRL's turned off for free as part of the "vehicle customization". I could have done that, but I forgot, and the dealership wanted to charge me for it later. Just a thought if you were interested.

Re: Drivers seat popping? (vivek9856)

Harrisburg is about 90 miles from Philly. I have a setting in my "Car Settings" menu to turn off DRLs. Seems to work. Is having the dealer do it different?

But since you have that in your menu options, neeeevermind.
But definitely take you seat to the dealership and have it looked at.

Any chance that someone on the forum has a schematic of the drivers seat, perhaps from a service manual? Some diagrams would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I've had this issue in my MY07 S80, it was solved by the dealer. They had to remove leather from the backrest and foam the two cylindrical parts which caused this annoying movements and sounds.

Re: (nicebag)

nicebag, thanks for posting. What you describe is exactly what I would think the problem would be. It does seem pretty simple to fix.
