Has this happened to anybody else? I had an exhuast leak I could hear it...then all of a sudden heard a big 'pop' and the car was VERY LOUD. Turns out the downpipe cracked along the weld inside of top flange coming off of the turbo. I ordered a IPD downpipe today to replace. I'm just wondering if this has happened to anybody else? I'm just trying to figure out what may have caused this? Is my car running hotter than it should? I always keep my eye on the temp gauge and it never creaped past halfway. My car is a 2004 V70R w/ 96k on it.

I've seen a few here on SS with that same exact problem. I wouldn't say it's common but its not unheard of. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yep + you get a new 3" performance DP! Forced modifications FTW!

Stuff wears out, especially an exhaust system component with all that heat cycling - no big deal. The caR will thank you for a better DP anyway. Now you need IPD's new exhaust system, a FMIC, and a tune to round out the package.

And don't forget that your stock Cat is worth a few bucks. If you're having a shop do your install make sure they give you credit or it. It should be worth $50 - $75 IIRC.

If you recycle a cat, it's only worth $7-$10. I know there are precious metals in most cats, but it's not easy to separate or even worth much. Even 120 lbs of steel is only worth about $10-$20.

That's a lot less than I've been quoted here in ID... I think there are places you can look up on line to see what they're scrapping for. I asked my mechanic about my suburban because I want to do an exhaust on that and he said he's got a buyer who'd give me $85 for each (there are 2). This was back in October tho.

This happened to me this past December and I actually had a thread about it. I was making a video of my buddies doing a quick run and BAM. Car got SUPER loud and all I heard was the turbo spooling. After removing the heat shield I was just as surprised as you.

Front Mount Inter Cooler. Helps reduce intake temps, heat soak and pressure drop from your Intake / Charged Air.

A worthy upgrade to preserve HP in our caRs if you live in a hot climate.

Ok great thanks. Right now the car is stock other than a K&N cone air filter I put on and removed the top plastic box ontop of it. I'd assume the IPD tune is the way to go?

A few options are available for tuning, and an FMIC, 3"+ DP & cat back and probably a Cold Air Intake plus a full Stage 0 should all be done to get the most out of your tune.

Current tuners: IPD, Viva, EST, Elevate and ARD (which is just now coming to market, but the one I'm most interested in).
