Okay im itchin to put the full OBX ehxaust i got but i remember a while back i spoke with someone from IPD saying its possible i would throw codes with the down pipe on and not having a car properly tuned up for it. Does anyone know if this could cause any issues. Im not doubting IPD i just heard from various people that it wont cause a problem and i dont wanna find out the hard way. so basically what im asking is does anyone know or have experienced any problems with installing a 3" downpipe and the test pipe with out having their ECU tuned yet. (it might take a while seeing as i lost my job and im broke and fresh outa college)

Re: Downpipe on without ECU tuned (JRL)

sweet thats what i like to hear. and i was really hoping you would be the one to respond with your words of wisdom. your like a swedespeed buddha. and now for part deux of the questionals how about throwing codes seeing as i will have to run the test pipe until i get a flanged up cat. Is there any way to use the spanked stock cat? so save some money?

Re: Downpipe on without ECU tuned (JRL)

roger roger, so i should ask about throwing a code with a straight pipe? or about the part where using the stock cat in the OBX system? and now for the not so final final question (prolly wont be the last but still im tryin to get the knowledge from your brain into mine) when you say i wont throw a code... how about when im gettin on it like really on it? i you can see my sig that i have a bunch of goodies and actually for graduation my brother bought me the MSD ignition so thats also going on tomorrow.<p>haha other question how much should i sell the angled flange DP for? i said 175 + shipping in the f/s forum

$150+ shipping since thats what they go on ebay for . <br>If you do throw a code get the 02spacer and you should be fine after that. <p>But will you pass inspection with out a cat in NY ? >>>>> I doubt it . <p>Also get a bulit cat for the OBX kit since the stock one sucks the big one

Re: (Chilled Man)

okay i changed my listing to $150 thanks. i have been real busy packing and unpacking and all that graduating crap.<p>As for the emissions in NY yes i do have to pass. but right now i dont have the money to get a cat... so my amazingly "educated" (remember i graduated today) mind thought hey i dont have to pass inspection until december ill just enjoy the test pipe. and if by december i still dont have a job, ill have the car stored away ( i refuse to sell it, my kidney will be sold before the car will)<p>Are there people on here that used the straight pipe given to them from OBX? im just curious as to if the rear 02 sensor will reach without have to do a "splice & dice". So everyone wish me luck because the weather looks great and my hip god willing allowing me to move on the ground ill finally have an exhaust on my wheel horse

Stock rear O2 will work fine, no splicing involved. <br>Space the rear O2 out from the exhaust stream with spacer and no CEL.<p>I have fully discussed this with Gary on VS since my kit is coming soon.

Your rear O2 sensor won't reach and I don't think there's a bung in the OBX anyway to begin with (ok, there might be one, I forget). In any event, the positioning of the 2 sensors in the OEM cat is incredibly close together and pretty high up on the pipe. You will need an extension if you are going to run a cat after the lower bend in the dp. IPD sells a good long-wired extension. After I installed my OBX dp, I never got around to extending the rear O2 sensor harness wires. My sensor is wrapped in plastic and stuck under a crossmember and never got a CEL after 6 mos and 1000s of miles. I'm sure JRL will disapprove and tell me the sensor is going to die from doing this.

there is no bung but you ahve to get one drill and made , but you can get the rear o2 extension wire from IPD and that works amazing <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/biggrin.gif" BORDER="0">

If you have a 3" pipe, get a 3" in/out cat. I'm sure that little spun cat would fit. See my sig for what I used (California compliant).

Re: (pelicanflyt)

i appreciate your input and in all honesty i had like that much for one i would prolly get it just to make sure NYS doesnt give me any sh*t. but i will say that i liked this comment
highflow cats are less the $100 and should run less then $50 to install[/QUOTE said:
so i guess ill just hope now that i can get the spun one from company Honduh and pray it passes inspection.<p>so after i get a cat either way, i have to have a bung drilled into it for the rear cat and then get the 02 spacer from ipd... simple enough but the place i took the car told me i had to find a cat pre-bung drilled in the EXACT location blah blah. shoud i call them back an say hey... just drill a damn hole and ill do the extension an stuff?

Re: (Chilled Man)

sounds good to me ill prolly just get the spun magnaflow one from "rice".com cause im broke and as long as i pass emissions i dont give a funk i just want the damn thing on and sound sexy. <p>Does anyone with an OBX exaust know how far out the tip sticks? cause i like the flush with the rear bumper look. so while they are slicing my test pipe to add the cat ill tell em take off what evevr distance "x" of overhang there might be

Re: (KurT5)

Minor adjustment. My EST stuck out about an inch. I asked the shop guy to make it flush. He shrugged his shoulders and just cut it and rewelded it. Took all of 5 minutes. I wanted it to line up like OEM. <br><IMG SRC="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z113/pelicanflyt/IMG_3686.jpg" BORDER="0">
