Alright, my 45,000 mile service is right around the corner. Seeing the popular topics on the forums, and taking into account my "spirited" driving style, I want to take preventative measures to make sure various mechanical things DON'T blow up in my face. Here's my current list of things to have checked, please let me know if I've missed anything glaring or otherwise, AND how I should phrase these questions for the service department so I seem "knowledgeable"... http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Check angle gear
Check collar gear
Check Haldex AWD functionality
Check life on brake rotors
Check life on torque converter
Flush transmission
Check alignment, balance and tire tread
Raise headlights

TIA

Check angle gear (just check for leaks at the flange)
Check collar gear (skip this)
Check Haldex AWD functionality (Just have them run general codes)
Check life on brake rotors (Ask how much life is left on them)
Check life on torque converter (skip)
Flush transmission (Try to find a independent mechanic for this due to $$$)
Check alignment, balance and tire tread (Easy)
Raise headlights (Turn adjustment and have them check for proper SUM calibration)

Check alignment, balance and tire tread (Easy)

Easy if you think driving on a flat road shows proper alignment.

Put it on the rack and get real numbers.

i'd like to see a mechanic "check" the alignment for you.

considering they have to bolt up all the equipment to see if the car is aligned properly, it seems there is no such thing as "checking the alignment." which means you're paying for one lol

Re: (TGO)

Yea checking alignment and performing alignment are pretty much the same.

You can raise the headlights yourself. Look behind each headlamp looking down into the engine bay for a single white 6mm hex nut. Turn CCW (I think) to raise. If it doesn't raise anymore, then you're out of adjustment room and you need to turn them down, get a SUM recal, then raise them back up.

Check collar gear
Check life on brake rotors
Check life on torque converter

Good luck with these. Brake rotor life is subjective and the others will require lots of labor hours. You may want to consider other fluid changes such as coolant, brake, differential, angle gear, etc. Simply beacuse of age, I had the coolant, PS, and brake fluid done and will have the others taken care of at the next service.

Also, have them check the loose nut behind the steering wheel. Very common these days! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Check Haldex AWD functionality

PROCEDURE:

1. Go to empty parking lot or be 1st in line at a set of lights while red.
2. Turn DSTC off (5 click off, not reduced).
3. Put car in Advanced mode.
4. From a stop, nail it at WOT throughout 1st gear.

RESULTS:

A) If car moves forward with all its might, AWD works fine

B) If car smokes front tires, AWD is not working

Check Haldex AWD functionality

Come up here to Maine and drive in the snow....you'll know if it's working or not.
