door controls backlighting and auto-dim rearview mirror questions

Hi all..

I recently noticed the door lock, window controls, and side view mirror controls on the drivers side door panel arent illuminating. The backlighting does come on briefly when I turn the key in the ignition but once the car is started it goes dark. The strange thing is that if I move the instrument panel thumbwheel dimming control, the backlighting for the drivers door controls comes on and stays on until the car is restarted. The car is scheduled for a service appointment next week but I figued I would pass this by you.

Re: the auto dim rearview mirror with compass, is there supposed to be a LED at the bottom of the mirror next to the sensor? I dont know why I seem to think there used to be a small green led illuminated there.

Thanks again..

Regards,

Rich

Mine lights up there. You're right, it's a very dim green.

Re: door controls backlighting and auto-dim rearview mirror questions (Rich10512)

Hi All..

Just wanted to post a follow-up since I just picked up my Volvo from its 60K maintenance visit...

In addition to the maintenance:

The backlight issue with the driver side door controls was caused by a faulty Master Window Switch. It was replaced and now I can see the controls at night..

Regarding the Rear View Mirror, the LED just confirms the auto-dim is working. In my case it wasn't working properly so Volvo replaced the mirror with part 30744705 which is different than the original (no LED, sensor built into the mirror itself)...much cleaner looking.

The drivers side door Loudspeaker was faulty (no bass) so that was replaced..

And finally, the Master Cylinder was leaking so.. Replaced.

I'm feeling much better about my investment in the VIP extended warranty!

Regards,

Rich
