I got an estimate to fix the bumper by a body man....$200.00. Paint will be blended on the bumper only. Haven't decided what I'm going to do.
What an idiot I am. I was running late to work. I thought my car was in reverse while looking on the passager seat for my cell phone while I was leting out the clutch. I though I was going backwards, but by the time I realized I was moving forward it was too late---bang into my bicycles.
The R ran into my GT road bike! The pedal of the pike penetrated the bumper! Dooh, I'm stupid!!! A new bumper cost $800, painted from the factory. Alternatively, I can get the hole plugged and painted by a bodyman, but thought I would get your opinions before making a decision.
Please chime in. Feel free to call me stupid or idiot or whatever comes to mind.
Thanks.

I applaud your courage in admitting this. Sorry to hear about the expensive damage, but I guarantee you won't do this again. The wonderful thing about the members on this site is that nobody will make fun of you for this (Hah!).

lol
I almost did the same thing the first night I got the car.
Coming out of an automatic LS...after I started the car in the garage, I took my foot straight off the clutch(in first). It jumped forward about 3 feet. That was how long it took me to stomp my foot back on the clutch.
I just about puked(my guess is you did) when I saw that I was less than a foot from my snowblower.

$800 painted from the factory is pretty darn inexpensive IMO. For a body shop to properly repair it is going to cost probably close to $500 I'd wager (depending upon the size of the hole). For the extra $300 it seems to me better to just get a whole new bumper.

Happens to all of us. I would get the pre-painted bumper and install it yourself. Really not hard at all- even easier with a second set of hands.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could get insurance coverage for that sort of thing?
Homeowners policy maybe?
This is a fundamental reason why I never leave my car in gear. You get distracted and before you know it your car is up someone's arse. Keep it in neutral with handbrake on. Then when you want to back out of your garage, you can put it in reverse.
Now if you're saying that you put it into first instead of reverse, theres no helping you!
