I thought the new S80 was a serious 5 series competitor.

I know better. I am sure that the many salesman on this board will tell us otherwise though. For me, I am done with Volvo after this R. Time (and a regional rep) will tell how much longer it stays.

I never, for one/tenth of a second even imagined the 80 being a 5 series competitor.
Thus, the lack of disappointment. lol
An ES300 competitor, maybe.

I think I can agree on the interior part. It was the first thing I said when I saw the pictures.
The interior isn't "bloated" enough for it's class, to simple and lean.

My aunt has one and I cannot believe she could even think it is nearly as good looking as the cars she has had in the past. But, it does have the L on the hood. So, besides appearance, I am quite sure it is a good car.

FYI to all,
This is very quickly becoming unrelated to the R, and will be moved to the S80 2007 - Current forum if much more interest occurs.
Thanks guys.

OK, I'll try to keep it in this forum:
Would a tweaked out V-8 (say 375+ hp), MT, stiffened chassis, Brembos and Atacama be enough to compensate for the bland and uninspired styling-by-committee and attract any R folk ??? Reads like a Swedish V Series, without the subpar fit and finish.
I do think this new model smells a little like Ford-think was excessively involved.
But it's got plenty of room for two fat guys.
