Don Beyer Volvo, with three locations in Northern Virginia, and the Washington D.C. Region of the Sports Car Club of America announced today that Don Beyer Volvo would sponsor the Don Beyer Volvo National Races. The event, to be held April 7 and 8, 2001 at Summit Point Raceway, will feature the first visit of the Volvo Historic Series to Summit Point Raceway. Don Beyer Volvo is a long supporter of DC Region and we are very grateful for their willingness to support grassroots motor sports.

In addition to sponsoring the weekend, Don Beyer Volvo is supporting a Chicken and Rib dinner for drivers, crew and workers on Saturday night of the event. Don Beyer Volvo will be displaying cars and will supply a pace car for the event.

One of the highlights of the weekend will be the first visit of the Volvo Historic Series to a DC Region event. The series, sponsored by Volvo of North America, features vintage cars prepared to 1973 competition rules. The series usually brings Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaros and European sports cars from the 1960's and early 1970's.

I don't know. I was going to ask if you knew anything more about it after you said you'd be covering the event. I was just looking at the DC area SCCA page, and I saw it and thought it looked interesting. I probably won't be able to go, so I haven't looked any further for details. There might be some more info at the Summit Point site:

Also, I haven't notified the Washington Volvo Club. I think the vintage race(s) are for any make/model, not just Volvos, but I don't know about the rest of the event.
