I used to be part of the E46 Forum and there was a discussion there about little hidden features in the BMWs called "easter eggs", here's a few examples:
1. When the temperature drops below 37 F degrees, the car beeps to let you know to watch out for icy roads. Also, the rear defroster comes on.
2. You can read the odometer with the car off; all you have to do is press the needle on the left.
3. When car is off, hit the volume knob on the radio the radio turns on (it only works with 02 decks)
4. There is a "secret" compartment underneath my car's armrest and a Coin box in center console.
5. There is a trunk release right above the hood release (not on all cars)
6. There is an exterior trunk release above the license plate and under the ledge.
7. There is flashlight in the glove box.
8. There are amber lights that shine on the center console.

Do we have anything like that on the S40's? Sorry I am curious and I will only get the car on Saturday when I get back from a business trip

Re: Does this car HAVE any "easter eggs"? (S40FUN)

Huh...ok. For the rear windows: If you press the button 9 times in a row, the window will go down an extra 2 or 3 inches

I think that's the only way to open the trunk on our cars
8. There are 2 tiny green LED near the sun roof control that shines down on the console
Some other stuff that might not be obvious or new to users:
1. The gas lid has a little metal tab that sticks out so you can place your gas cap on.
2. There is a handle inside of the trunk lid so you don't have to put finger prints on the paint.
3. Just about every seat has a kangaroo pouch right in front of the seats
4. Hold the unlock button on the door for a few seconds roll down all windows. Vice versa for the lock button. This may also work on the remote depending on where you live.
5. Rear bottom seats can fip forward to allow the back seats to fold down flat. Also been rumored that it can also be used as a floatation device in an event that your car lands on water.
There are some others but I don't remember. Like how to reset service reminder and how to turn on diagnostic display by holding down the read button when turning the key.

Here are some:
1. There's a clunk when shifting
2. There's a noise on the right B pillar somewhere
3. The drivers seat moves back about an inch when accellerating
4. The fan shoots hot air when dialed in at low temps
5. Finding the AFM is an Easter Egg hunt in itself

Not sure if this is the owners manual, but I only noticed it recently: The rear wiper of the V50s automatically sweeps once when you engage reverse *if* the front wipers are active.

Yea, that's one of my faves.
Doubt this counts but, if you turn the volume all the way to 0 it pauses the CD.

Homesafe Lighting: With the key OUT of the ignition, tug on the left stalk like your turning on your brights, the headlights will turn on for 30, 60 or 90 seconds (depending on how it's set)...
You can find a bunch of these things in your car settings menu...

Re: Does this car has any "easter egg"? (v50xc90v70123)

Hello there, you must be really mad at BMW for some reason, I had mine for 5 years and all that I had with the car was joy. I am going to miss it, but it is time to move on, and since I did not had the money to buy the newest model of it, I bought the S40 2005 and I think that I will be happy with it as well. The purpose of the post is not wether I want the feature or not, it is about discovering little hidden things on our cars and compile a list. Peace brother.

Re the windows, pushing the button N times will drop the glass, but it is because it starts a position recalibration. You need to fully cycle the windows after doing this to complete the process. Lots more than it's worth.
Tom.

Arm the car by pressing the lock button on the door:
Open the door, press the lock button on the door, then close the door, the car will arm. Saves a little bit a battery on your remote.

Remove the key from the ignition switch.
2. Pull the direction indicator lever towards the steering wheel (as when using the headlight flasher function).
3. Exit the car and lock the doors.
The headlights, parking lights, license plate lights will now come on and remain on for 30, 60 or 90 seconds. The time interval can be changed according to your preferences by using the Personal Settings function, described at the end of this chapter.
So I guess it works upon entry as well as on the way out...
UKMatt

When accelerating with cruise - clicking it many times accelerates faster than holding it down. Cruise also sucks when dropping speed (you have to hold it down which is annoying)

Re: Does this car has any "easter egg"? (S40FUN)

for 05-up: take out the steel key and use it to lock the glove box. 90 degress will lock the box, 180 degress turn will lock the trunk so it can't be opened in any way.
When scrolling through different sub-menus in your Infotainment, you could hold the EXIT button instead of pressing it several times to return to main screen, no matter which sub-menu you were in previously.
Hold down unlock on your door (not your key), and all the windows will open.
For all Volvo (my favorite to show off to other Volvophiles):
Turn key to II but don't start the engine. Hold the READ button on your turn signal stalk, then press the rear fog light button TWICE. It'll show your DTC status on your DIM.

I was very dissapointed that the roll down windows from remote was disabled for '06. Well, it doesn't work on mine or our demo anyway.
