I have a 01 S80 . Based on current gas prices I have questions about whether or not any one has tried to use anything lower that 91+octane gas. I would like to try but dealership and manuals warn against it. I need to understand.

I use 91 octane all the time in my s80 T6 None of us have had any problems.... My dad uses 87 in his S80 2.9. These newer engines will not ping if that is what you are worried about.

Re: Do I Have to Use 93 Octane Gas (taylormaed)

The engine will retard timing to compensate which will affect performance slightly and perhaps decrease MPG slightly as well.

i believe the manual (depending on engine) prefers you use 91 octane. i use 93 with my chipped ECU.

Re: Do I Have to Use 93 Octane Gas (SkyWriter)

I use 91/93 with mine all the time. I think it is better to have higher octance with forced induction engines. This will provide better protection against knocking.

-Luke
