Bump old topic :)

Where did you placed your GPS antenna?
Mine is under the dash at the place of the center speaker (wich is removed) but GPS is a bit off... To often thinks I'm driving another road next to me.

The orange "cables" on the CD changer are fiberoptic. As always, when disconnecting the head unit, you must disconnect the battery first, after the car has been turned off for at least 5 minutes. When reconnecting the battery, the key needs to be in position II.
Why position 2?

Why position 2?
It may be the documented correct method, but I've disconnected my battery 3 times in the last two weeks (upgrades) and completely air-headed that step. No ill effects that I can notice.

Installed a new DMH-WT7600NEX.

Your attachment may show on your computer when composing, because the attachments are in local storage, but they don't show in real life

After many failed attempts attaching pictures, I finally learned how to attach pictures. The secret is to do it from "Reply to Thread", instead of the "Quick-Reply" when composing the message. At the bottom of the thread, just above the Quick Reply box, is the respond to thread banner.

Replaced the outdated 12v power point with a 12v meter and USB jack. It switches to amps when something is plugged in. Many versions on Amazon.

So.. I've been reading up on the whole aftermarket 2din stereo thing for my 06 XC90.
I have the premium audio package with Dynaudio.

So .. *IF* I understand correctly there's no way to keep the current amplifier in use due to the fiber connections. With a kit like https://incartec.co.uk/product/Volv...-with-rear-PDC-retention-interface-FK-860-PDC I can hook up the current speakers to the new 2din unit (Pioneer SPH-DA230DAB), right?
I can then add a subwoofer to the unit as well? The unit has a connector option for it.

First time car audio project. Better safe than sorry :)

After reading this thread I'm close to order the stuff I think I need. Just wanted to double check it'll work for my car.

I have an XC90 MY 06, with Premium Audio (Dynaudio). I see the incartec set: https://incartec.co.uk/product/Volv...-with-rear-PDC-retention-interface-FK-860-PDC
Would this kit combined with a Kenwood DMX7018DABS work? I'd be bypassing the amp if I understand correctly and hook up the speakers directly to the new HU.

Also want to add https://incartec.co.uk/product/Volvo-Reverse-View-Camera-CA-VOL01.

What I don't see, yet, is how the incartec kit works with the fiber optic signal. I don't see a fiber optic cable in the kit. Am I missing something?

Maybe contact them direct and get it cleared up, but it's not looking like it will do anything besides redirect the output from whatever stereo you decide on to the speaker cables unplugged from the amp, and, forget about any of the original gear.. The canbus interface gives you the backing sensors and steering wheel control interface. They provide a new speaker for the backing sensor, much like Axxess does.
I read the specs on the Kenwood, and it seems that, like most of these head units, that they don't want you to know what kind of main processor or what level of Android the rig is upgradeable to. I can't believe the thing has only one BT and one USB. Seems that I missed where it says anything about memory and SDram expansion. There are lots of Android units out there, and this one seems a little spec lite.
Features available to look for:
More than one BT channel, so that the second one can talk to a BT canbus reader.
Multiple USB, so a front camera records straight to a large USB drive or portable hard drive, and you can plug in music storage or DVD storage for the kiddos.
As much memory as you can get. Multi-tasking apps will slow things down. At least 4Gb RAM
WiFi with Remote antenna so you can update stuff from home WiFi. It can be faster than cell data. Everybody knows that Android apps are constantly updating (and that the OS never seems to).
GPS included.
Don't get sucked in by "Steering Wheel Control" ready BS, either. If it uses pulse signals; it won't work with your car SWC goes over the Canbus on our cars. SWC goes through the famous "clock-spring".
Don't expect, familiar sounding processors like Qualcomm Snapdragon, because they are phone chips with cellular capability.
I've had my ATOTO A6 (love it) for over a year, and I'm just now finding out all the things Android can do in the car. Yeah, I'm a slow adopter:rolleyes:
What market are you in? If US, there may be more options. I looked Incartec over closely when I m
was gearing up, and it seems a bit pricey. I went Axxess for SWC. I don't have factory back-up sensing.

I did my mom's XC70 with a Metra ASWC1 kit and was disappointed to not get an Illumination wire.
I just swapped out the Pioneer HU's and was very happy to discover the new HU wanted a speed pulse wire and the InCarTec (that I installed way long time ago) had it there waiting for me.
The InCarTec has never skipped a beat. I would buy it again.

The most effective strategy for dealing with the MOST fiber optic system that Volvo/VW/Porsche use is to get rid of it entirely.
The first best audio upgrade it to get rid of the POS factory amp and use something with more POWER!!

Help/Guidance Needed

Hello everyone,

Please excuse me, this is my first post here. I found that [email protected] seemed to be doing an excellent and much-needed job of giving parts, pictures, instructions, etc. I sincerely thank you and appreciate you and your hard work.

I am looking to install an aftermarket in-dash receiver such as this one: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130DMW4660/Pioneer-DMH-W4660NEX.html on my 2008 Volvo XC90 V8 AWD with the DYNAUDIO upgraded audio system. My car also has the backup camera, navigation thing that rises up from the dash, backup sensors, BLIS, and is basically fully loaded (just not R-Design or Sport model).

It looks as though people have been able to do this install themselves using this kit: https://incartec.co.uk/product/Volv...-with-rear-PDC-retention-interface-FK-860-PDC but I have not seen anyone talk about the amplifier (please do excuse me if I am mistaken). Could someone please give me a full rundown/information as to what my options are in terms of the factory amplifier? My local car stereo shop said that since I have the DYNAUDIO package, I cannot bypass the factory amplifier. I plan to do the install by myself, I'm very tech-savvy and have done a few other maintenance/repairs around the Volvo.

I'd also like to upgrade the backup camera, I know people recommended using this one: https://incartec.co.uk/product/Volvo-Reverse-View-Camera-CA-VOL01'

And some people had mentioned using this: https://incartec.co.uk/product/Volvo-D--Fakra-C30-Aerial-adapter-to-din-plug what is this? Do I need it? I am in the US.

My Constraints:
- I have the DYNAUDIO sound package
- Must retain backup sensor beeps and backup camera activating when car is in Reverse and the video feed should come to the new aftermarket in-dash head unit
- Must be able to keep the DYNAUDIO sound system (amplifier can be changed if necessary, confused on this)
- Must retain steering wheel controls
- Don't really care if the factory navigation screen that rises up becomes disabled after my install, since I'll have CarPlay and Google/Apple Maps as my navigation from then on.

Please reach out to me at this thread or preferably email me at [email protected]. I sincerely appreciate everyone's work and am really hopeful [email protected] can respond seeing as he has done this install twice now (is there any way I can tag/mention him so he sees this?).

Thank you all, I hope to hear from you soon. I am very excited to carry out this project.

I did a double DIN on my first install. Two things to be aware of: You will need to "modify" some plastic HVAC items in the dash to get the HU to fit. Ultimately, I didn't like the angle of the HU's screen, the sun tended to wash it out. I switched to an old school flip out and was very happy with it. Now I have the big screen NEX and love it.

Yes, that is the InCarTec kit you need.

The only reason I can think of that you can't bypass the Dyn amp is if the drivers (speakers) are of a different impedance that an aftermarket amp wouldn't be happy with. Bose systems come to mind. So you may need to replace the drivers. You will need to bypass the factory amp because you are disabling the MOST system.

I tried that camera that replaces the plate lamp but it failed pretty early on. I would skip it and use this Alpine camera: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500HCEC110/Alpine-HCE-C1100.html

I was never able to find my factory antenna cable. I haven't listened to terrestrial radio in years. You'll probably need to do an aftermarket antenna.

You will want to run a ground cable for the HU back to the battery to help eliminate noise.

Hi robtr8,

Thanks for getting back to me. How difficult/risky are is are the "modifications" of the plastic HVAC items in the dash that I'll need to do in order to get the HU to fit? Also, how can I change the angle of the HU, is there a kit or piece that I can use? I don't really like the aesthetic of flip-out ones.

How can I find out if the speakers/drivers have different impedances than an aftermarket amplifier? Could you please help me/suggest an amplifier that I should use? I am fine with replacing the amplifier, if necessary. I don't really want to replace the speakers and the speaker system. I thought that bypassing the amp is a different method of doing it compared to replacing the factory one to install an aftermarket one? Or are they both one way of doing this radio replacement? I'm confused as to what I need to do, replace the factory amp with an aftermarket one, or just simply bypass the factory one with the InCarTec kit's harness?

Thanks for adding that tip about the camera. I'll definitely be paying extra to go for that much better quality Alpine camera. How do you mount/install that one? Does it come with everything you need? Or is there a kit for that?

Can you provide a link/part/model number/name as to an aftermarket antenna you'd recommend for me? I like listening to FM radio, never listen to AM.

Where can I find a ground cable that's long enough/has the right ports on either end to run it back to the battery? How difficult is that?

I apologize for the numerous questions, this is my first time and I really just want to get everything right. Thank you robtr8, and everyone, again.

I've sent an email to MusicarNW to see what they would charge for installation. If I can, I'd really like to do it by myself. Thanks a lot for the information, though. I've been living here 16 years and still didn't know that was a place! I do have a buddy who's done some radio/stereo upgrades in a car before, but hasn't ever worked on something this complex.

Anyways, thanks for the tools list and the YouTube info links. I do have the screwdrivers, wire cutters, etc. and can easily purchase the rest of the tools. Could you be a little more specific in the "install stuff" I need from http://theinstallbay.com/
Like maybe links to the actual products I need from them? Thanks.

Other questions:
How difficult/risky are the "modifications" of the plastic HVAC items in the dash that I'll need to do in order to get the HU to fit?
Can you provide a link/part/model number/name as to an aftermarket antenna you'd recommend for me?
Where can I find a ground cable that's long enough/has the right ports on either end to run it back to the battery? How difficult is that? (I know how to solder)

Thanks a ton for all your help. I just need these questions answered then I can order parts. My ultimate goal is to give back to this community by writing a singular post with all the documentation anyone will ever need to do an install like mine.

I having been trying to install an aftermarket back up camera to my Alpine headunit. I have everything run but I can't figure out the wiring to the reverse light. I have the red and black wires coming off the camera for power and ground. When I take off the taillight assembly there is two black and a blue wire going to the reverse light. Does anyone know how to wire it? I have been searching and can't find an answer.
