I've noticed of late I'm having increasing difficulty moving the 6-speed gear stick into the reverse position. Today for example I tried maybe thre times in quick succession to move the stick from neutral to reverse when leaving the office parking lot. I just could not engage reverse at all. I found that I had to release the clutch while in neutral one or two time before being able to get into reverse. Getting into reverse has always been a little troublesome but never this bad. Is this a sign of the times? Have others experienced this slow degrade in moving into reverse. My car has a little over 14,000 miles and is close to being 3 years old from new car purchase date.
I will also say that shifting into all gear positions except for 5th and 6th is quite notchy.
Comments welcomed, and thanks in advance.

Thanks for the TNN. Have printed it off and will be armed with it when visiting Volvo service.

In the meantime, when it balks at going into reverse, slip it into first or second then go right back into reverse. works every time for me. oclv

Re: Difficulty moving stick to reverse gear position (I Roll)

I had it done and it worked great - over a year now. Agree with JRL that it was better than new.

Re: Difficulty moving stick to reverse gear position (R_Rated)

It is definitely worth getting fixed. When they did mine they found all sorts of other problems while they were in there which resulted in a new flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, and transmission. Mine now shifts closer to what I expect. As an added bonus, the work got rid of my wheel rub on tight turns.
