Wow man! Great job! How long did that take you?
Your STC button is where my TRACS buttons is, is that the same thing?

Re: Did R cluster gauges and blue inverted LEDs in the C70 (Schweder)

Wow, that looks really nice!
So I'm wondering about one thing... I've not messed with my 70-series clusters yet and am curious to know if the mileage is "updated" from the car to the gauge?
I guess what I am thinking is that I only have 29k miles on my C70 but have been toiling with the idea of getting an R type cluster... From what you have experienced, would you say that this is likely or am I stuck with a cluster with the wrong mileage?
Thanks and kudos on a nice job!
Cheers,
Prospero

Quick question related to the upgrade you just did (which looks great, by the way):
How does one remove the plastic shield that covers the instrument gauges? It looks like someone tried to clean mine before I owned the car and some of the cleaner ran down behind the plastic and dried.
I would LOVE to finally clean this or even replace it. It drives me crazy every time I look at it!
Thanks,
Gordon

Very nice. How hard was it to do the LED conversion? I've often thought about switching to BMW style red/orange LED's to match the exterior.

Re: Did R cluster gauges and blue inverted LEDs in the C70 (C70drvr)

Basically you need to disconnect the battery and remove the entire dash cover. That entails removing all dash vents, speaker grilles, glovebox insert, disconnecting airbag, etc. The gauge swap itself is easy, you just unclip the cluster and put the R faces on the non-R gauge (to retain mileage, etc). The IPD rings are sandwiched between 2 pieces. The pain is that you cannot reverse polarity on LEDs, so lots of test-fitting is needed, which means attaching the airbag, connecting the cluster, connecting the battery and turning the key/dash lights on. Once done, they should outlast incandescent bulbs by a magnitude of about 10 times.
The other thing to remember is that a '98 R cluster only works for a '98 C and the 99/00 clusters are interchangeable to 99/00 C's only, but you cannot put a 99 cluster in a 98. The C also has more torx screws at the glovebox and a vertical clip near the center channel not found on an S/V70. The center speaker itself is a big pain to disconnect and reconnect.
It will take about 60-90 minutes to remove and reinstall the cluster to the serious DIY'er.
