Hi Everyone,
Well, I got into my car ('01 S60 2.4T) on Monday morning and it wouldnt start.. The engine cranked, but no ignition. I tried many times to get the car started, without luck. At one point, the text window displayed "Immobilizer" but then the message cleared. I tried different sets of keys, with no luck.
I also tried locking/unlocking the car with my keyfob and trying to restart. Still nothing. As a last resort, I disconnected the battery for about 5 minutes and tried again, but no luck.
I wound up having the car towed to the dealer and havent seen it since. I spoke with them last night and they were unable to find any issues. The car has been starting fine for them, no problem. They said that there were no codes stored in the system.
They're going to keep it overnight again tonight to see if they can replicate the problem.
I had mentioned to them that I disconnected the battery in an attempt to get it going, and they said that I must have wiped out any diagnostic codes stored in memory. Is this true? Will disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes wipe out any stored codes? It seems odd to me that a 5 minute loss of power would wipe out any stored codes, as they could be valuable in determining an electrical problem, should one occur. I could be wrong, though..
I'm just annoyed that I'm probably going to get stuck with a tow bill + labor to fix a problem that can't be found. (If something was found, I'd only be out $100 as this is the deductible on my extended warranty)
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Scott
