The Swedish press is reporting on differences between the production car and the concept car:
- Smaller glass roof
- Conventional rear doors
- More room in rear for a convential trunk lid
- Rear seating for three passengers
- No interior glass detail
Source: http://www.aftonbladet.se/kamp...01.ab
None of these things should be suprising.
There is also a commenter on the Teknikens Värld web site from a person who claims to work for Volvo and be familiar with the new car. Summary:
- More plain lines and less "bling"
- Outside mirrors similar to current V70/S80
- No panorama roof
- Not much new in the interior department: style similar to XC60
- Wider than predecessor, but not as wide as S80
- Considerably taller than predecessor, but not quite as tall as S80 (in contrast to the concept car, which is lower than the outgoing S60)
Source: http://www.teknikensvarld.se/t...x.xml
Nothing terribly surprising. Those who don't understand that the role of the concept car is to push the envelope will be disappointed.

Re: Details on production car (Munin)

What about the length of the new S60? We don't need a slightly sportier S80, Volvo needs a clearly different car slotted in a different level. The S40 really competes at a level lower than the 3-series and the S80 is most comparable to the 5-series. So considering that the S60 is targeted to compete with the 3-series - I hope it is no longer than 184-185 inches. Same for the V60, no longer than 184 inches.

Re: Details on production car (VolvoMax)

What's the length of the current model? 180 inches? I'd like to see the car stay about the same size, but take advantage of the EUCD chassis to improve the turning radius, so that it maneuvers like a car of its size should.

It's nice that we are actually getting some information about the S60 Concept. I can't wait till they release the engines that are going to be offered. I'll probably be disappointed that it will be no were near exotic as the European rivals.

Re: Details on production car (Munin)

When is the s60 going to be introduced? The real one with the real interior? No pics yet, only a concept car that has suicide doors, glass roof, and a crystal console inside. Is the interior really going to look like the current xc60 inside? That would be anti-climactic and make the car seem conservative. Volvo shouldn't be but so conservative especially when they lag making new models compared to European brands and way behind Japanese brands. Something akin to the xc60s concept console in the presentation and unlike what's in the current cars would be interesting. The s40 seems the most adventurous of the current design and it is middle-aged.
I hope Volvo doesn't plan on giving us the same old s60 for 2010. New cars are introduced in the fall and the fall is only a few months away. Does Volvo plan a half-year introduction?
Volvo is too late in redesigning this car and the xc90. They need a new xc90 soon, even if sales are dropping there's still a market for SUVs that size. And the s60 is long overdue. Also, why not a new s40? A Subaru Legacy-priced s40 would not be a bad idea. But s40 and s60 need larger interiors.

Re: Details on production car (Benjamin Smith)

There is no S60 for MY 2010.
2011 S60 will arrive in the 3rd Q of 2010.
Cost precludes the production S60's interior from looking like the concept cars interior,or the XC60 concept interior. There is a reason why they are callec concept cars.
As for the S40, originally that car was going away however that plan has been re-thought. The 2010 S40 will have a lower base price here. A lot of what was standard in 2009 will be optional in 2010. Building a larger S40 is pointless because we will have the S60.

Re: Details on production car (EngTech)

We are getting a C30R w/ AWD so the RS development isn't going to be wasted.
A high output S60 would require wayyyy more refinement than a Focus RS however.
It is possible that you could see a more powerful 60, but keep in mind that CAFE is going up so that may limit all future high hp cars, regardless of manufacturer.

The S40 might disappear as a US model but volvo is keeping a small saloon in the lineup to compliment the V30, C30 and XC30. V50 disappears and grows to the V60.
Sub C30 car is also on the cards as a fully electric model.
V30 is seriously needed model.
Project 'Mecano' had a small 3 and 5 door hatch based on the 440 platform (non US model). The first gen S40/V40 had a 'V30' prototype but never made it. Time indeed for the 5 door Volvo hatch to come to market!
The XC30 should bridge the gap between the new mini-SUV trend and the current mini-MPV trend. Examples of the mini-MPV are the Nissan Note, Honda Jazz, Ford C-Max, Renault Scenic etc

Re: (Shimon)

I'm hoping there's an XC30 or V30 (c30 5 dr) when my wife wants to replace her XC90 in four or five years. She loves it, but thinks she won't want something as big the next go 'round. We've looked at the XC60 a lot and she thinks that even that is too big...
Are the XC30 and V30 confirmed? If so, when will they be out?
