What's the collective Swedespeed opinion on the Denso Iridium plugs these days. I'v a set of 5 from IPD but reserve them for my 30K service. However, I've heard -ive statements about them which leaves me wondering about how smart it is to use them.
If people have -ive and/or +ive opinions then please post here. Thanks.

I've used them in other vehicles, and the V70, and like them. I find the idle slightly improved.

So far 12,000 miles and no problems with them.

Not that I would ever put non-stock plugs in my car with the hostile dealer climate in my area, but I had a buddy who put them in and hasn't had any problems for over 2000 miles...

Well, personally, I've not heard anything really bad about the oem plugs but enough of denso's (I think it's been posted somewhere in here quite sometime ago) to stick with the oems. So far, the oem plugs have served my mods well.

I switch to the Silverstones in the last car. It's amazing what a better spark plug can do. I'm actually thinking about getting these.

Nothing beats the OEM's. But Denso is OK as long as you treat them with care.
There have been a few reports of tips breaking effectively ruining the piston top.
Used Denso's IK22 on my 850 and S70T5 and they did well. A tad snappier than OEM.

is there an actual difference in operation of the car with iridium plugs vs. stock that makes their outrageous price worth it?

I've been running the Denso's since last year. They seem fine, and I've had no problems with them. But I also didn't notice any performance difference.
No difference = not worth doing, especially for the cost.

Re: (mgotts)

wouldnt it be better if your running heavy mods since premature detonation would be a worry. i guess only if hte denso's actually work more efficiently.

There are stories on the 'net about it, along with pictures (you'll have to Google for it).
In the couple of discussions I saw last year about failed Denso's and damaged pistons, one dealt with a supercharged S2000. The guy admitted he could actually hear detonation under full throttle. If so, he's an idiot, and the problem was not the plugs fault. I think he holed a piston, but the discussion focused on the Denso's, for some reason. Looking for a scapegoat, I think.
Anyway, without a dyno to accurately guage the difference, all I can say is that I could not detect any. I've left them in (mostly due to the hassle in changing them), and they work just fine. But I won't bother doing it again.
