I hate you. I hit a pothole (on a freeway I travel often) and got bulges in both of my right tires on friday. I suppose they were on their way out anyways, and I was fine with replacing them. As I paid, I thought: "well, I'm paying about 700 for tires, i suppose the extra 70 for coverage won't really be putting me any more in the hole."
Then, not 72 hours later, this morning, I am somewhere else entirely, and lo and behold, I am magnetically drawn to yet another pothole that expands across the entire bridge join, and this time take out the left side. I feel fantastic, but call work to tell them that I will be working remote today, and then follow up with AAA, and the people that just put the General Exclaim UHP tires on, hoping that brand new tires had enough tread to protect the rims.
Even better, the reason that I was going where I was going, when I was, is because the fiance accidentally put the steering lock on with the wheels jacked to the right, making the 18 year old 960 unable to be started. So that car was towed by AAA to the indy shop, where it is getting looked at. getting looked at, hopefully it won't be too bad, and perhaps they can just remove that feature.
It's never a great day when you have to call AAA twice in 12 hours. Regardless, ODOT, I appreciate your lack of interest in caring for the roads. It's my brithday on Thursday, please wrap a big bow around I-71 and follow this simple three step process:
Step 1: Fix
Step 2: It
Step 3: FIX IT!

Re: Dear Columbus OH and ODOT (BeerEngineer)

Sorry to hear about your tires. A couple years ago I hit a pot hole and blew out both tires on the passenger side and ruined both wheels. The AAA truck guy said I was the third person to hit it and blow tires that day. I called the highway department to report it so they could fix it before someone got hurt. They sent me a form which I filled out and the state of Nevada paid for both new tires and both wheels!!!! I coudn't believe it. What a great state. oclv

Yeah, I have the Common Claims form which I'll submit sometime this week. Thats if I can get there without my tires exploding.

I feel your pain, I lost a tire to 71 too. If you're just going north/south and it doesn't affect your commute too much, try 315. Road conditions are far better, but definitely more cops around the OSU exits.

I think I'll just start taking the Greenlawn Exit onto 71, that would have taken care of it.
Still, I took that ramp twice last night, while driving angrily, and had no problem. Today, sunny and calm...WHAM!

Wow...wow is pretty much all I can say.
As I type they are repairing the road outside my house. They did a great job resurfacing the entry to my driveway so that I won't crash the suspension pulling in anymore if I exceed 2 mph.
Be careful coming out of the city on 315 North. The middle lane is the worst and causes a jarring of my fillings when I hit the bridge expansion joint. The offending rut is one of the first bridges after 315 turns to 3 lanes Northbound. The slow and fast lane are fine.

Re: (sh8kdwn)

yeah, its been great.
Luckily, I now have new tires and alignment for all of 36 bucks.
Unfortunately, the 960 needs a new ignition cylinder, thus renting the lady a car for a week. It's a shame, though, as the 240 at my parents is still sitting in NY with idling problems.

Re: Dear Columbus OH and ODOT (Ocelot)

Last year I lived in Medina. Rte 18 was fantastic when they finished it. I'm sure cleveland will be the same when they "finish it" after they recoup all the Lebron James money. Why do you think Rte 18 was fixed in the first place? It's the "Chosen One" route he takes from I71 south to Akron. He also has a sweet Maybach with the darkest tint in the world.
It was 36 bucks to "renew" the protection on the two tires for 17/tire.
Also, I found out that it covers the rims as well...so thats pretty good coverage. Grismer tire, good stuff.

Euclid avenue-Cleveland logic:
1.Run a bus route in the middle lane with the bus stops in the MIDDLE of Euclid. (Which opened last year and needs to be redone because of inferior construction)
2.Remove a lane, so it's BUS ONLY with traffic signals with symbols on it no one understands.
3. Add a bike lane in the far right
4. Allow one lane for traffic
5. NO left turns into the Cleveland Clinic from 100th to about 83rd, where you make an illegal U turn.
6. Ticket jaywalkers trying to get to work, and bus riders not using designated cross areas.
7. Throw in a few red light cameras.
Welcome to Cleveland!
