Wow, so i drop off my car yesterday to try to figure out what went wrong when i installed my boost gauge to trigger my "driver side door error message". First, they tell me that my boost gauge that "was put in place of a speaker" needs to be removed for the door panel to come off. Then they call me with the diagnostics and say that pretty much the harness inside the door become (what sounded to me, unhooked) and it took them X amount of hours to diagnose and it was gonna cost $580 to fix!!! hahahahaha, i seriously started laughing hysterically. I already knew it was going to be a train wreck when those idiots called me and said they had to take off the boost gauge to take the door panel off My question is, since i brought it to them thinking it would be a warrantied repair, and they are saying since it was tampered w its not, I can just say no to the repairs and fix it myself?? Because the service manager practically told me what the tech said, and its probably isnt a hard fix. What are you guys thoughts??

Do it yourself. Don't let those ham-fisted, warranty denying, incompetent a$$-hat$ touch your, most likely, excellent work.

since it was an add on part that may have caused the problem....you will be out for any labor they needed to diagnose the problem.

Have Nick help you out. No harm in seeing what he can do since its somewhat nearby.

Yeah man, those guys really try to stick it to you at times... I mean $550!! I just spoke to the service manager again and basically got him to say all they did was connect the harness...So in other words I will be paying $500 for labor... Wtf, are technicians doctors these days!!!!

Re: (B.G.)

Dude, I was just quoted $280 for replacement of the tcv valve. that was 1.5 hours, quoted, if you can believe that. I, an untrained layman, can change the tcv in UNDER 5 minutes (more like 1-2 minutes), yet I have to pay Volvo $300 for the pleasure of them replacing a failing part (that's about $230 for the labor only), with another that WILL fail within the year. Volvo has serious problems, and these problems have stopped me from ever considering another volvo, new R or no new R.

This is why i walked away from the dealer when they quoted 6 hours to replace the radiator. And Chinaonnitrous di his on jackstands in...what was it, 3 hours?
more importantly, the non-R but still turbo and intercooled s60 runs 2.5 hours of labor, so I would love to know where the extra 2.5 comes from.

^^^That believable... Well i already had them come from $627 down to $400....as a "good gesture" so they say. Still kind of heated! Ill maybe shrug my shoulders at $300 and chaulk it up as a lesson learned, but not $600!!!!

Re: (B.G.)

Whatever but YOU were the one who screwed it up and it should NOT be covered under warranty.
BTW, I paid about $400 for Keystone Volvo to DO my boost gauge install, almost 5 hours! (but perfectly done, of course).
He did it slowly and carefully so he wouldn't screw anything up

^^^^ im not denying that buddy... but if they would have called me and told me it was going to be $630 instead of calling and saying if its not under warranty im looking at $90, i would have just taken it back and fig it out....I looked over it, but never super thoroughly....%5hrs is ridiculous. Now that i know what Im doing, it would take no more than 2 and a half hours...

Re: (B.G.)

There should have been better communication on both of your ends. IF they saw the Boost Gauge, they should have mentioned that if this is the cause, then no warranty. You should have also asked them to take a look before fixing to make sure it was a warranty claim and not something you did. Dealers love this stuff because they get to charge you full price for something that should have taken 30min.

Let me guess - Koons VOLVO on Reisterstown Road. The most un-mod-friendly bunch of SOB's I've ever come across. If you're not 100% stock, you're an alien to them.
