Picked her up today...

Despite calling two weeks ahead, and again a week ago, I did NOT get a US Nav DVD when I picked her up. This dealership is not familiar with OSD or military sales vehicle transactions. In fact, I probably will not go there for service, since my R was the first either salesmen had ever seen. The one was slobbering over her, going on about the wheels, interior and about how this was the sweetest Volvo he had ever seen. The other one was shocked to see a stick shift, didn't think Volvos came with those. Welcome to LA (lower Alabama / AKA the panhandle of Florida).
Interesting note, when I inquired about the Nav DVD on the phone, one of the salesmen mentioned the Sales manager thought the DVD was in parts, but they were closed today so he couldn't get it. When I mentioned that I spoke with parts yesterday when the sales manager wasn't working, and they didn't have it, he was like "oops" (the sales manager left before I got there to avoid me asking about the DVD). Of course, since he left, the two remaining salesmen were just waiting for me to show up so they could leave early. I asked what time they closed on the phone en route, and was told 1730. When I got there, and asked, I was told 1800.
Which was interesting, because last week when I called I was told they were open until 1900 and their door clearly indicated they were supposed to be open until 7 pm Mon - Sat. When I pointed out the hours posted on the doors, they said, (mostly with a straight face) "Oh, we should probably get that fixed". Even more sad is the fact that they just split the Volvo/Isuzu dealership from the rest of the Capital dealers and moved into this new building, so those hours were just posted on the doors a couple of weeks ago. I really hate being lied to, especially if you do it poorly.
Whatever, great to have the car back. Now to find out if Fort Walton Beach or Dothan, AL Volvo dealerships have ever seen an R, because I still need my 4C fixed, (thank God I have Euro lights, when lights are pointing straight down, halogen high beams make perfect low beams, better light pattern than stock ).
I'm also working trying to get a refund on my $865 Mayday/Telematics system that has never, and will never be used, since Volvo is canceling On Call Plus, and Cingular will not activate TDMA phones anymore. My feeling is I should get my money back, since at the time I bought my '04, '05s were on sale and did not have the phone as an option, so Volvo KNEW about the upcoming obsolescence, didn't mention it but still took my money.
Anyways, here are some pictures...

Oh, and I now believe all of you about the gas mileage possibilities (I averaged 17-18mpg in Germany)... Wow, awesome Kelly! Did you get a lot of looks from your plates. I know what you mean when you hear the dealership say we never seen an R before. I would run too.

Welcome back. I'm glad your Euro headlights passed the DOT inspection, if one was conducted. I would call Volvo N/A or the US office for OSD in California. I can look for those phone numbers if you need them. I'm sure one or both will rectify the DVD situation, or at least set your dealership straight.
BTW, that is one TIRED looking Volvo dealership!!! Scary thought having your 4C serviced there!!! There must be at least one good dealership in Florida.
- Tryg

Wow! That dealer looks really like it's a little back woods type of operation. I'm glad to hear the the car made it over A-OK.
I've been to that base on vacation once berfore and remember how horribly slow the speed limits are set (cops love to hang out at the bridge trying to catch GI's as well). It is going to be quite an adjustment coming from Germany, but be careful man, go find a dragstrip of track someplace that is hopefully close and get your fun in!!! Good luck on your next assignment.
Regards,
Kevin

You'll need to find a local source of 100 octane if you want Inga to run remotely as well as it did on the superior European fuel.

Because after driving mini-vans, SUVs and station wagons (the non-300hp kind) for 6 weeks, the car felt VERY strong yesterday at stock boost levels. It is because we left Panama City at 2 pm, plenty of time to get to dealership before 7 pm (less than two hours away). Well, forgot about the time change to EDT and then had to stop for baby to eat (he's only 2 months, doesn't care about my deadlines ) so between that and dealship trying to close early, almost didn't get the car.
Well, enough rambling, family is taking me out for Father's Day Brunch I think. Happy Fathers day to all you other Dads out there.

You would better have stayed in good old Germany.. you will miss the 150M/PH on the Autobahn, the 09:00 min for a Ring Lap and all the Spandau Gang including me and some other "Military Tourists" will miss you greatly over here
It was a great time with you and since you are gone it became pretty silent around the Ring and R GTG!!!!!
Wish you and your familiy a great time over their in the US, maybe you will have the oportunity to come back to Europe once.
