Okay, we're thinking either Sunday evening or Sat afternoon. Anybody have a preference?
The plan is to meet on the top tier of the parking garage at Washingtonian Center. As there are many there, it's important to note that it is the one directly across the road from Target. At the main entrance to target, you are right by the entrance to the garage.
If you plan on stopping in, mention which one is better for you (Sat afternoon, Sun evening). Also, once we have a time figured, if people could post ASAP to the other boards to let others in the DC area know. It's just going to be a casual get together in the parkinglot to look over each others cars and hang out and shoot the bull. It's not affiliated with anything, and certainly not a show.

I'll be tied up until at least 12:30 on saturday, so about 1pm sat. would be good for me.
How's the search going for a 245 Turbo?

I had a nice black on black '85 found, but I called two days too late (didn't call before I left for Maine).
Right now I am looking at some non turbo models that are newer ('89 DL and '90 GL). Basically I am looking for a car that I won't feel bad taking the dog around in (getting hair in the back). If I can do a turbo conversion to it later.... all the better.
Sat works for me, say about 1:00. Can you guys post to other lists.

George,
Hehehe..you can always take a look at my 240. It's a pretty fun ride, I'm sure you will like it a lot.
1 PM on Sat. would be kinda pushing it, I'd say it would take a good part of my Sat. to get the car outta shop. So far so good, very possible they can get it done by then. They like to hand over their projects on weekends.
How about Sept 1st's evening? 6~7? Should still be very bright outside. Well, maybe not, looks like this weekend is gonna be a rainy one....

Later is okay with me, Sat right. On the 240, I'm really looking for a wagon. I might buy the spacers though if you still have them.

I would much prefer Sunday, as I will be go-karting Saturday evening. Any time Sunday is good for me. I'll have the Bertone if the damn thing keeps running (fuel issues) or perhaps my 242 racer...we shall see.
Rob

George, 5PM Sunday is good for me. Sounds like Matt doesn't have any plan yet, unless Mr. Ladykilla got lucky this weekend. But I doubt he would mind bringing his lady friends along.
I will sell those spacers only if I know for sure I can sell the car at reasonable price.
If I can get ~3K outta the car, not including all the suspension upgrades, I'd be very happy already.
Yeah, most likely I will be doing some driving on Saturday if the weather is not too bad. Gotta clean the car up...and maybe even paint my rear calipers before we meet on Sunday. Not sure yet...I'm just hoping this car won't need to go into shop again any time soon.
Only work to be done: repaint the hood, get my sound system installed.
I'll let Matt know.
Sounds like a plan to me, guys. I will try and bring my friend Chris, he is new to Volvo ownership, having bought a 1980 242GT. It looks like crap from the outside, but is overall a great car. Still trying to decide which one to bring...put a fuel pump in the Bertone today. Anyone have a preference? The lowered/titan/red&clear rear light/etc. Bertone, or the 238 HP n/a 242DL?
Rob

Bring the Bertone! (if you can) Have you swapped in the 4cyl yet? I was assuming that's what the fuel problem is about. I think I've seen one 262C in person, and it was only while driving past it.
I just found a 262 C emblem in my garage from when my dad worked at Don Beyer many years ago. I've been finding all kinds of Volvo stuff, like emblems, speaker grilles, speakers, promotional items, one '82 brochure, and an issue of "Volvamus" from '81 (Washington Volvo club newsletter). I guess when you start moving things, you find stuff you never knew you had.

Micheal, I guess it's easier (and more legal) to bring the Bertone, so I may do that. I don't have the 4cyl in it yet...the fuel pump was making noise when I got the car, and finally crapped out.
That's pretty cool about the badges and other miscellaneous stuff...neat. I'm trying to collect stuff like that too.
Rob

Bring the Bertone. I'd like to see it and we can discuss the Project thing.
I went to drive a '90 245 DL today and am thinking of making an offer tomorrow, or it'll have to wait until I get home from Germany on the 13th. If I buy it before I leave, I'll pick it up Sat, though I think I'll still bring the R.
Right now we have an S60 2.4 out of the press pool, possibly that 245 and my 854R, but the R is gonna win that competition.
Hey, if you have old literature by the way, I would be really interested in borrowing it sometime in the next few months as I start to catalogue our model guides. I'd like to include hard to find stuff like color and options listings, and I think I can scan it as well and Volvo will let me use it copyright wise.

I'll bring what I have, which isn't much right now (an '82 Brochure and an '87 Brochure).
Here's a link to directions that someone posted for the first GTG at the Washingtonian Center:
http://www.virtualthought.com/kennahan_expos/riomap.htm

Bad news....there is a good chance the car will only be up and running today or tomorrow, but won't have enough time to do 'quality control.' Not sure this shop actually does that.
They even promise life time warranty as long as I own the car. Well, warranty for the labor of course.
What do you guys say? I think we should still meet....but a chance that the car won't be driveable until Tuesday.
Man...just when I thought I could be cruising around this weekend..
Realistically, how hard is it to put an engine back together....well..actually only 15% left a week ago.
[This message has been edited by The_one_n_only (edited 08-31-2001).]

That sucks about your car, but hopefully it will be worth the wait (and the wait...and the wait... ). So does that mean you'll be driving your 240? That's good I guess since I've never seen it. Maybe the RWD's will outnumber the FWD's this time.

Okay guys what's the deal with these RWD Volvos!? There were only 2 850's there! Granted it was fun but now I need to get a 240 or something like that so I can fit in. Either that or Kai will have to have his car finished soon. I am almost ready to open a betting pool...What are the odds that I will roll into 200K miles on my 850 before Kai has his C70 back from EIP? I am at 192255K. EIP says that the C70 will be ready this week. (For the fourth week in a row!) $50 says I'll hit 200K before EIP delivers the car... Who's in?
Prospero

Matt, you are looking to get 7745 miles within the next few days?! As much as I don't have confidence in EIP getting this done in a few days, I don't want you to drive till your balls drop.
Say average speed of 70 mph, you would need to do a straight, non stop, 4 day driving to crank out that mileage.
Say if I can split the $50 w/ EIP guys...

Kai, you said it was 95% done? I hope it's more than that, because that last 5% will take over 2 weeks at their current pace! I don't think Matt will make 200 by then, but it might be close.
Let us know when it's in your driveway so we can all meet up again and see it.
