Alright so I have an extra dash cubby coming in about a week. Does anyone have any pictures or anything of a gauge pod they made for the dash cubby? Any tips or tricks to making one? 2" pvc will hold the gauge as far as I know, so all I need to do is make it look like it belongs. Not sure if I am going to make it a 2 gauge pod or just one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Dash cubby gauge pod (sacrifice)

2" pvc holds a gauge snugly. If the bezel has some sort of retaining clip, you'll have to cut a notch.
Don't put the pipe all the way at the top of the cubby, you'll never get the cubby pod out again. There's a retaining tab up there you have to depress to get it out.
The cubby is stiff. You'll have to cut all the way around except for the face to get the pipe in. Getting the measurement is a little tricky. Remember you're not removing 2" of cubby, you're removing a gap enough to let the pipe protrude out the side. Think it through before you start cutting.
You'll have a little trouble with the face. The gauge won't quite fit throgh and you'll have to do a little trimming. Be VERY stingy about how much you take off. Depending on the gauge it may not have enough trim to cover your handiwork. I ended up having to use a rubber washer to hide that and my dremel skip accross the face.
Have fun, it's not terribly hard to get it to work, just a little hard to make it look perfect.

2" shop vac hose ends hold the gauge better, because it's thinner plastic, so you have more to work with as far as mounting options.

Okay I love the idea of a cubby pod but how do you get the cubby out?

Bone tool (from ipd). The key tab is on the top of the cubby about halfway back. You get to it from inside the cubby.

Get a bone tool (or screwdriver if you don't care) and look on the inside top of the box for a tab about halfway back. If I remember right, slip your tool behind it so it's pulled down into the box and pull it forward.
After re-reading my post, I'm hoping now I won't get banned for inappropriate comments.

You can do the "short way" as discussed above with pulling the tab, but I have never done it that way.

wow, thats not that hard haha. i was trying to remove it but it would come out. i removed the shift surround and right now I am in the process of stripping all the soft touch off. I hate how the shift pattern was placed on this piece.
