There was a thread a while ago that I can't seem to find with the search that indicated there were two part numbers for front pads. One for brakes with the dampers installed and a different one for original calipers undampered.... Is this still the case? Anyone know the thread or the part numbers?

Thanks,

Re: dampers or no damper brake pad (vintagemilano)

IF you complain of squeaking brakes they will install the dampeners along with the upgraded/updated pads.
(They do have a better "feel" to them with the dampeners)

Is that true for both front AND rear?

The front pads are the same but the rear pads are new. However, the dampers are only for the front.

Re: dampers or no damper brake pad (MagoonR)

I just had the dampeners installed. The sqealing is gone. However, when I roll the car in reverse from the nights prior park and hit the brakes I get a "click" sound from both the front wheels. After the initial click it is gone. But as soon as I go into drive and apply the brakes (once) they both :click" again. Volvo service said that it is the "dampening"plates shifting. Which would make sense. But it sounds terrible. They consider the minor movement in the backer plates "normal" They lubed them up 500 miles ago and all was fine. Untill yesterday.(clicking is back). Either they are installed incorrectly or my situation is unique.Or it is normal.

Re: dampers or no damper brake pad (MASH)

The clicking is the pads shifting, normal thing. The damper is bolted on and can not move.

I got the dampeners installed last year. Eliminated the squeal. I haven't had the clicking noise. However, on our 2002 Honda, it is VERY noticeable from day one, only happens the first time you change directions and hit the brakes, so I can tell you it is normal for some cars, even if my R has never done it.

I guess I'm the contrarian--had the dampers and new pads installed a couple weeks ago. They squeak a little more than BEFORE the 'fix'. I don't notice anything better--or different--other than that.

I had my pads replaced and dampers installed about a year ago after I complained of the squeaking. About a month ago the squeaking returned. It was nice while it lasted.

Lasted about 6 months for me but it is still much better and infrequent than before. I plan to ask for a pad regrease when the wheels are off next month.

No squeal has now lasted nearly 2 years, I'm afraid to put new pads on which it may need soon

There's "performance" and "noise reduction" versions of pads. The "noise reduction" version needs to go with the dampers.

Performance = 3068342
Noise reduction = 30748957

Cool, thanks.

Welcome.

I use the "noise reduction" pads without the dampers for better performance btw..

I had them installed last year. For the first few months it diminished but didn't eliminate the squealing. Now they squeal quite frequently.

Anybody else having the same issue with clicking sounds??? And do the dampers effect the performance of the brakes at all?

I have the clicking sound, but my pads are from Evolve. I seem to get the clicking/clunking sound at lower speeds even if I don't use the brakes but only when the car is accelerating or deccelerating.

So it is possible that my calipers need to be tightened up, even though the dealer stated that Evolve's pads were different in size and shape while Evolve says that they are the same.
