Today I decided I would go and get quotes on getting a custom exhaust made since I don't want to pay the $700+ for a pre-made catback. I asked both shops I went to and both told that they did not use a mandrel bender or mandrel bent parts but would crush them and it wouldn't do anything. Also both shops said that it would be impossible to get anything bigger than 2.5''. finally both shops quoted me at $700. fantastic

Re: custom exhaust (SDS40)

See if you can find a shop to do the welding and fitting for you. That is what I am doing. The guy is going to charge about 200.00 for his labor and I am supplying my own pipe. I found this place to be cheaper even with shipping than buying the pipe at local tune shops.

The part numbers I am using are:
6 90 bends MPE-10709 $21.95 each
3 45 bends MPE-10739 $21.95 each
1 FLEX PSM-82-4218 $39.39
1 Straight SUM -640030 $19.45 each
1 Magna Flow 12267 $97.95
2 Tips SUM-690042 $15.95 each

Total $386.24 parts (not counting flange and bolts)
Labor $200.00
-----------------
Total $586.24 for full 3 inch exhaust.

both places i was quoted for just catback, im getting an atp downpipe, i knew it was bs, because ive read about people getting setups for 300$ roughly. I've decided to just order all the parts ill need for a custom setup and then just have a shop put it together. as far as a magnalfow part does anyone have suggestions as far as which one to choose? Thanks

I included the part number of the one that has been suggested to me above for the Summit Racing website.
I can't seem to find it on Magnaflows site but it is "designed" for the Camero and Firebird.

You are paying a lot for your mandrel bends! I use a company called "CX Racing" find out what their prices are... May save you some money!

Ok. Any chance you can post the companies website? I have checked a ton of places and the prices I posted are for 16 gauge aluminized stainless steel. There is a difference in gauges and metals.
The best price I could find for the same quality locally was more than double.

volvonb how much was the est catback when it was on sale?

I bought mine about 2 years ago when they first came out for $499. Not sure if I had to pay for shipping.

Back in Oct 2008, they had a sale again but this time for $599.

I guess if you can round up a few people and contact them, they may be in for a group buy.

Boo for aluminized tubing. That stuff is crap. Might as well replace your windshield with some hollywood grade sugar glass too, it will probably last longer. Go for all stainless. Not to mention aluminized tubing can introduce some pretty awful/weird resonance tones.

They did the entire exhaust or cat back? The downpipe is the pricey part to make.

The downpipe is not a pricey part to make...I got mine built for 400 out the door with a high flow cat.

As for aluminized vs stainless steel....depends on your location. Stainless was 50 more but I dont need it down south so I went with aluminized.

Nice find on the muffler, long as its polished and doesnt look like crap i may just pick one of those up. If you guys are lookin for cheap materials to use ive always ordered from these guys, they even sell kits for discount price and you may just need to order a few odds and ends.
