Re: cupholder cover broke (bdcardinal)

My cover broke when the car wash guy leaned on it with his elbow. Snapped off the pin on the hinge. Unfortunately you can't just buy the cover and have to get the whole assembely. The part was too much money from my local dealer $90 or something like that.
I was able to change it out myself with lots of wiggling of trim parts. Take the sides off first and then things come apart pretty easily. All you need is a screwdriver. Good luck and patience.

Re: cupholder cover broke (bdcardinal)

IIRC, JRL did a mod which consisted of taking that cover off, removing the hinge pieces, and installing little rubber feet on it (like you find on cabinet doors to allow them to close noiselessly). Then, whenever the cupholder was needed, the whole plate lifted off and could be stored in the glovebox.
Hope this helps!! The part is VERY prone to breaking, and is a poor design, FWIW.
-Steve

Re: cupholder cover broke (Thanatos)

Yeah, I had mine replaced as a part of the deal when I bought my car. The guy that sold it to me was surprised that it went up to $100. If you do buy a new cover tr to see is the Webber Grill style one is available. I'm not sure how much that one is though.

Re: cupholder cover broke (bdcardinal)

I broke mine off on purpose and have lived that way for 2 years. Honestly, we ALWAYS have something in the cupholder anyway, and it impeeds placing larger cups and mugs with handles in there.
Plus, the cover looks nasty when closed. Just leave it off!
P.S. the slot on the right side where the cover used to recess to is a perfect place for your blackberry to sit, or the remote for your Sirius radio.

If the cover break where the pins are you can fix them
I just drilled out the pins and put stainless screws in
I did a write up a long time ago on this forum but can find it

The screws and nuts were like $5.00 total at a local hobby store, you could probably find them at homedepot tho
Chris

My friend got his jacket sleeve caught on the edge of the cover and as he stepped out of the car ripped off one of the pins oh well...

I broke that cover door not long after buying my R, and i have it JRLishly modded right now, mainly because I don't care. However the newer style console is a little bit better, so if I was in your position and wanting to replace it, I would get that Weber grill along with a new style console because sooner or later the back part will break and annoy you too.
Just my 2 cents anyway..

They're not cheap though, you have to swap the whole center console.
