Have these arrived in the U.S. yet? Any dealers out there have them? I'm looking to sell my 2001 XC to buy the Ocean Race when it is available.

No Volvo Retailer has one, yet, as they are building them right now. There will only be 650 units built for MY2002 and each unit will be designated with an individually numbered certificate. The main package on that car, the OCEAN RACE EDITION Package (Leather custom cut seatong surface, Power passenger seat, HU-613 audio system, Leather steering wheel, Aluminum rear skid plate, Unique Ocean Racec exterior badges, Floor mat embroidery, Mesh Dash inlays with numbered Ocean Race badge, Rear Center cooler box, Trailer hitch with wiring and 2" ball and Rear cargo wet tray) lists for $2,700 which would make an OR XC only $750 more than a comparably equipped '02 XC.
You are getting rid og your 2001? You better get ready to "eat" some $$$!
Yannis
Hi Yannis - just wanted you to know I got $35000 for my 2001 XC w/20,000 Miles. That's pretty good considering I got the thing for $38500. I did add the NAV system but everyone's always said accessories don't add much value so I never expected to be compensated for that anyway.

I assume hat you got this from a private sale, not another Volvo dealer. BTW, did you get an Ocean race? I thought that very few or none made it to the West Coast...

Yannis

Hi Yannis,
Yes I did get one. I'm actually in transition back to the East Coast - Birmingham, AL (where I'm from). I had the dealer their hunt one down. It was tough, but she found another dealer who had 3 in the pipeline and he gave her one. I actually just saw an Ocean Race in person at the L.A. Autoshow this weekend. Not sure I'm thrilled with the shade of blue - at least under the lights of the show. After I take delivery in Bham, I'm going to ship it via private company to Los Angeles until I move back East by mid-year. If I decide I don't like the color maybe I can get something for it out here close to what I'm paying - esp. if there aren't many on the West Coast.

They are pretty hard to find...we have been very lucky with them. We received 3 and were sold out within a week. Some other retailers are still sitting on them but they have to be marketed, I guess. I just got 2 more and we are in the process of selling them, too.
I think you will like it. I know you saw in a Show but wait till you see it under natural light, unwrapped, etc. You will love it!
Good luck!
Yannis

If you get the chance, check out the Ocean Race Edition imposter over at http://www.v70xc.com/pics/art/vor/index.html
The car is actually a '01 XC in disguise. Everything on it is authentic right down to the decals. The only item to indicate that it was'nt an official O.R.E. were the stock leather seats.

What's the story on that car? I can't tell by the photos, but if that's the Ocean Blue color, that color is unique to this model, so it'd surprise me if it isn't real. The other thing is that it appears to have the OR's blue stitched seats as well so I'm confused that it's not real.
BTW, I got a few more detail pics of the car at Detroit in our NAIAS '02 Gallery (to see more go here http://www.swedespeed.com/resources/gallery/auto_shows/naias_02/index.shtml ). Check ou these floormats.

Interestingly enough, that's what I thought when I first saw the car. That is until my sales rep told me that it was not an official O.R.E. but instead a '01 XC created to look like one. Anyways, it's beyond my comprehension why anyone would go to this extreme. Still, I'm curious why the rep would want to fabricate such a tale...beats me!

The blue stitching is part of the graphite leather packages on all XC's.
I'm thinking the same as you though.. can't quite figure out why someone would got to such great effort to replicate a car that can be had at almost the same price.

Anyone know if the ORE is sold out?

My current demo is a 2002 XC, Silver Metallic w/ Graphite LEather...I just ran out to see what color is the stitching and I can guarantee you it is not blue! It is a dark grey as they get!
I can't imagine someone went through this tremendous expese to PAINT the whole car, buy all the decals, replace all door panels, dash, etc. It is kind of absurd. I can tell you one thing...if the whole car was painted, its value is destoyed no matter how good of a paint job it was...Instant depreciation.
Yannis

weird... you're right Yannis. I guess I've never taken too close a look and that blue looks so familiar there. I'll shut up now.

Oh yea, one thing that I forgot to mention, there was no tow hitch on this model as this feature comes standard on the Ocean Race.

Okay, this might solve some of your questions. I'm putting two and two together.
First things first, Coastal, where'd you hear about the stitching? More on that in a second.
I was just in Calgary at a Volvo press event. I noticed two wierd things about two cars I drove in. First was a black XC with blue stitching and aluminum interior trim (I'm 90% sure about the trim, but 100% sure about the stitching, sorry drove in a bunch of cars up there and it is kinda running together).
Next, I rode in a loaded S60AWD with aluminum trim.
Being a Volvo geek, I pointed this out to the guy in product planning and asked him if these were going to be standard issue.
The answer was that the aluminum was ordered just to see how it looked. I guess when you are in his position you can do that. He wasn't sure why the blue stitch was in the black one as he didn't order it that way and he said it wasn't an option. So, I wonder what's up there regarding your answer Coastal? Wondering if you had heard something I hadn't.
Now, to come full circle after that long story, I'm guessing that this is a preproduction O.R.E. ordered in that color and with blue stitching from the factory. They could then simply fit the ORE stuff to the car. It would seem they have that ability to do that for evaluative purposes and this might have been an early display or demo model.

George,
I think your right in assuming the O.R.E. was a pre-display model. I happened to drop by Valentine Volvo in Calgary last month when I noticed it sitting on the dealer lot. It was at that moment when the salesperson explained to me that a Volvo Canada rep from Vancouver was the previous driver of the car. BTW, I have to concur with Coastal, my '01 Polar Arctic XC with graphite leather definitely has blue stitching.
I had to go double check just to make sure and sure enough, I do have blue stitching.
Here's my driver's seat. 2001 Silver XC with graphite leather interior. It's more subtle than this photo displays, but it's definately blue.. thought I was losing it there for a sec. I guess this is a variable in their manufacturing.
Perhaps for 2001 they used blue and 2002 they now use grey, with the blue reserved for the Ocean Race? Just a thought.

[This message has been edited by coastal (edited 01-20-2002).]

I recall reading that the president of VCNA drove a 2001 XC that was done up like an ORE in the XC caravan that went from the old HQ in Rockleigh to the new HQ in LA. If they did it to one car they could have done it to others. Also, from the pictures I saw of the ORE lookalike in Calgary, I think it was missing the numbered dash badge. For what it's worth.
Anyhow, we're very happy with ours (#149), but I'm also glad to have a less complicated 945T in the family fleet.
Joshua
72 1800es, 94 945T, 02 V70XC
