I have a "new" '06 s40 2.4i with a manual transmission. As the topic title indicates, my clutch is as creaky as an old wooden ship. The dealership lubed it up a couple of weeks ago and the creaky stopped. However, it has returned.
The car's got only 10K miles on it. Anyone else with this problem??? If so, what did you finally do to rid the car of this annoying noise? Thanks!

Re: Creaking Clutch ... (gtimark)

Do you mean the clutch pedal? Tell your dealer that there is a Technical Journal on this problem, 19272, dated 6/23/08 .

This is a very common problem and there is a permanent fix. I'm surprised the dealer did not know about that. Chances are, the 5-speed is different from the 6-speed in that respect though.
Read this:
http://forums.swedespeed.com/z...age=1
to get the whole story..

Re: Creaking Clutch ... (FinnSpeed)

Thanks guys! I guess my "search skills" need some work! I'll give it a shot at the dealership. Since they've already tried the heavy lube with limited (<2wks) success, maybe the TNN will do the trick.
Mark
ps Do either of you two, FinnSpeed or Turbo04s60, know what the difference is between the "Technical Journal on this problem, 19272, dated 6/23/08" and the TNN give on the linked site by FinnSpeed??? ...
Tech-Net-Note:
NO: 40-05
DATE: 1-2-2007
MODEL: All New S40 / All New C70 / V50
YEAR: 2004.5 -
SUBJECT: Noise / Vibration / Harshness Improvements (NVH)
This six-page bulletin deals with four separate NVH issues - one of which is:
"1. Technical Journals are what Volvo uses now. They still have TNN's, but, all new information is released in the form of Technical Journals. In all reality, its really just semantics.

I got my clutch spring replaced under warranty and that solved the problem. The creaking would be more prominent if the car was out on a hot day. During the winter the sound was never there.

I had just re-lubed the central plunger myself this weekend. I live in the HOT SoCal desert and I noticed yesterday as I drove to work in the AM that the clutch was relatively quiet ... the ambient temp: ~63 F ... Yeah, I fixed it!!! BUT when I returned home that afternoon, the outdoor temp was in the low 100s F and the creaking had returned with a vengeance!
Needless to say, until I had found this forum, I was becoming discouraged about the situation.
Thanks for all the feedback. I truly appreciate it!!

Yep as everyone stated, it was a recognized issue. It really does take 4 hours though, they have to take apart the entire panel under the steering column and remove the accelerator pedal and whatnot, similar to what has to be done to replace the cabin air filter. They got grease on my floor mats It came out, but still...
I also feel that the clutch travel with the revised spring is more linear, and that 'hump' is not as noticeable. Perhaps its just the clutch wearing in though.
