After two sets of tires that both wore to below the legal limit in roughly have of their expected life span, I decided to take the V50 in to have it looked at before the warranty ran out. The diagnosis was the hydraulic control arm bushings were bad on both sides and the power steering rack is leaking. The dealership is going to replace both front control arm assemblies and the power steering rack under warranty.

Has anyone else had any funny tire wear? I'm hoping that the new parts + alignment will take care of the problem since the warranty will be expiring soon. I don't want to have to buy new tires at half of the rated mileage again.

This car is completely stock. The tires didn't just wear the inside edge like too much negative camber would cause, but they also wore the inside tread unevenly. The driver's side did have some cupping, but that isn't the only symptom. One of the tires (driver's side)also had 1/3 of the inside edge completely bald. The other 2/3 was worn and cupped, but that 1/3 was racing slick bald...

Yeah sounds like you have more issues than just an improper alignment. Curious to see the outcome after the components are replaced and the alignment is done. The rear tires still seem to have camber wear on the inside edge as the allowable amount is -2.5* from the factory

Re: (ForceFed Motorsports)

I dropped it off with Volvo this morning. I have my fingers crossed that all goes well.
I got a nice S60 T5 loaner car, so the situation isn't all bad.

Re: (V50_T5)

We got the car back yesterday. Everything seems so tight now, it's almost like it's new again. As soon as we got it back, I took it & had some new tires put on. So far so good.
I'm planning on pulling the tires off in 10k miles and measuring tread depth to ensure that there are no more problems. I'm out of warranty already, so she's all mine now.

Yup, just had mine replaced at just under 27k miles. Inside edges wore out. One of the tires had a bad bubble. I've never had tires wear out so fast. When I brought it up to Volvo, they told me it was normal. Tire shop said the alignment was out, so that got done too.
