I'm sure this isn't possible, but is it possible to take the air temperature sensor from the front grille or wherever it is, and put it in front of the intake (inside the piping)...so that the dashboard would read Intake Air Temps instead of ambient air temps? I personally could care less what the temp gauge says about outside air temps...that's what windows are for. But knowing how good (bad) of a job my intercooler is doing would be pretty cool.

I would say yes ..... it should work but.... I would think the ECU probally uses the outside temp for something important not sure what thou.

The little snowflake icon is an extremely important safety feature and you will definitely lose complete functionality! Think this one through guys...
(My lack of real input aside, this is a cool idea.)

LOL snowflake .
Worse comes to worse you pop a cell and put it back to the way it was.
Again volvo does some screwy stuff and I wouldnt doubt that sensor is tied into something else in the car.

That was my biggest concern also... that it would somehow effect it negatively...dunno though. Worth a try I guess. I'll do some digging tomorrow.
Uh...where the hell is the temp sensor anyway?
