I just finished watching a video about the Mercedes AMG G Wagon and they have backlit illuminated door sill that glow in blue when you open the door.
it's in the last part of the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...0gear
Now as cheesy as it is, I like that a lot. I thought that if I can possibly do cut outs of the Volvo in the door sills, and either find some small LED's or an "indiglo" type panel and put it under the door sill. Then hardwire it. I'm assuming there's a fuse that controls the door open light that it can be wired to.
I may be far fetched, but I love the look in the Benz. I don't have much experience with wiring and this type of stuff, so I wanted to see if this was even possible to do, and maybe get some ideas from people with more experience.
Some people may not like this idea at all, so keep the flaming at a minimum.

Re: crazy door sill idea... (Dygitalpmp)

You can throw some neon lights under there. Then the'll glow through the door sill and under your car. I had some on my Jeep before trading it in. They're fairly inexpensive and can be replace/removed at will. Wiring is a piece of cake with a switch under the dash or you can use the blank spot on the console beside the DSTC button.

Hell I had a crazy idea about putting a push-start button at the shifter knob like the mercedes SLR and putting in a polished aluminum instrument cluster like the Aston Martin DB9. Any opinions including flaming is open.

I say go for the door sill idea just remember to take pictures for posterity (ie: the rest of us).

Just got back from the store and I hear there is a car show for the 4th of July weekend. Planning on entering but so far the only thing I'm going to do is upgrade the w5w bulbs and high beam and smoke the tailights. Anyone else got a low budget modification to help better my chances of winning this?

Lol...Scary I saw a Lexus with these today and set to wondering the same thing - would be cool to have the door sills light up

I like the idea. It would be neat if it could do that "white glow" that comes from behind our gauges. Like the glow that comes from the power buttons on Apples.

going off that idea, what if you were to have the VOLVO still on the sill but in the classic VOLVO blue with the white silhouetting the letters and the blue would light up as well.
There is a parts distribution center north of Atlanta on 85 that I see all the time and the lettering on the building looks like that at night. It would be really hot!

I like this idea. I don't think it's too tacky and I've seen it done on one of the new Chargers where it looked completely badass. If someone were to do this mod I'd definately want instructions as far as wiring it goes.

You might want to contact HEICO and see if they have installation instructions for their door sills... but now that I think of it they may just be stick on ones.
I really want to see this one done. It's supposed to be pretty warm this weekend so I will check it out as well. I do believe these door sills are glued on.

hmm... well i might not feel as bad for prying them off, hehe.
I'll take a look at this b/c this seems like a very easy project that should be really rewarding. I should have some free time this weekend.
I hope others are getting the itch to do this, b/c that would make it easier feedback wise.

From HEICO's sill product installation PDF...
Installation of the entrance trims
- Take off the original entrance trims in the front doors. Use hot air and pull strongly. The entrance trims can brake at this work.
