am i the only one who feels this way about the R? is it just mine? 2007 w/ 49k miles. stock.

-door handles are creaky and flex
-door panels creak and flex
-glove box is a rattling disaster
-armrest is a flexing noisy heap
-whole dash sounds like sht when going over bumps
-rattle from rear deck lid
-drivers seat creaks when turning/accelerating

my 2003 civic had an infinitely more solid interior. how is this possible for a 40k car?

thank god for the 13 speaker audio....

I agree.. Mine is just as bad, and with only 25k miles, babied.

I'm glad you mentioned this, because I was beginning to wonder if it was just my car. I don't hear much talk about it. The worst for me is the dash sound going over bumps.

I'm trying to address one at a time but it's pretty tough. I'm surprised there aren't more write-ups here. Anyone found a solution to the dashboard sounding like it'll fall apart when going over every semi-harsh bump?

I have an 07 with 50k and it is almost completely silent, except for one creak coming from the passenger seat. Noises like that really piss me off so I can only imagine how it makes you feel.

I am very sorry you are having so many problems. I am trying everything to make it stop. Let us know if you find a way to fix the creaking
weird that some experience this, and others dont. even the transmission tunnel portion of the center console has a creaky side to side flex that has no place in a volvo. da fuk man....

Glad I have an 04.

Sent from the seat of my pants
+1 88k miles and *knocks on wood* no creaks/rattle/vibrations or complaints - except my driver side window tabs broke and window is chocked up at the moment until I get the tabs.

I guess I'm fortunate because mine (2007 w/48,000 mi.) is silent. Maybe it is because it is seldom run in advanced mode which is great for the track and handling, but a bit harsh on the body. Any thoughts?

I would say these are common interior problems on R...and more you mod it out the more noise and rattler you will get...like poly bushings stiffness, exhaust loudness, lowering it /stiffer in comfort mode, running it in advance mode all the time and ect. all add and accelerate already prone flaws that R already has.

I'm pretty sure a lot of the problems mentioned in the initial post come up because of playing the audio system really loudly (especially since you mentioned the 13 speaker sound system--which does indeed rock--literally).

My 06 is really quiet and the only noise problems I have are when I play the audio rather loudly. The front door panels rattle at certain frequencies (could be fixed with dynamat etc.) and the rear parcel shelf rattles as well. If I have no music playing, the car is totally quiet.

08 "plain" (or "boring", whatever you prefer) S60 with 55k miles, I used to have a lot of these problems also, rattling glovebox, creaky seats when turning, armrest squealing like a little pig, dash rattle when going over bumps, and door panel noises. Now I have none (except the rear deck rattle that only shows up when I am having a bad day), so i'll run through what I did one at a time.
Glovebox: there is a piece of either wood or plastic or aluminum trim on the top of the glovebox, if this is screwed in too tightly it makes a horrible sqeaking noise every time it is disturbed, if this sqeaking noise is what you hear then loosen the screws inside the glovebox that hold it in place and the noise goes away, if the whole glovebox rattles then you can recess the latch that the glovebox connects to by pushing it inwards with a little force, also adding electrical tape to the latch will stop any motion of the glovebox.
Seats: don't know why this helped but I put in a decent amount of plain grease into the guide rails of the seats, then moved the seats forwards and rearwards while applying the grease more, the sound died down significantly but is still there sometimes.
Armrest: this is by far the simplest one, go to home depot, buy some weatherproofing strips (the foam padded kind with a sticky side), and place them in small strips next to the holes that the armrest latches into when closed. Sound goes away completely.
Dash: I had a buzzing dash that would sometimes show up after hitting a bump, turned out to be the engine heat shield below the turbocharger, tightening the bolts that hold this heat shield in solved this dash rattling problem (which really does sound like it's coming from the dash).
Door Panels: you can do the same basic idea as I did with the armrest on this one if you find that certain parts of the door panel are rubbing against the door and making noise, place a few strips of weatherstripping and the noise is gone. The torx screws holding my door panel in place were also loose, allowing it to flex slightly, I tightened these down and most of the flex was gone, but had to place 2-3 strips of weatherstripping under the door panel to stop a "clicking" noise that they would make over bumps.
I hope all of this applies to you R guys, the only rattle I can not solve is the rear deck rattle...

I do have some squeeks and rattles, but I tend to pinpoint them and fix them all.. I can't STAND that ****. Armrest on mine is very creeky, but illest-R's doesn't creek/squeek at all.
