could our rear o2 sensor be described as a "Bank 1" o2 sensor?

When my code reader is giving me a o2 sensor fault (bank 1)... does that mean the first upstream o2 sensor closest to the turbo or the one closer to the cat? This whole time i've been thinking that my front o2 sensor is the culprit to all my problems till I talked to a toyota tech today that told me that almost half the car manufacturers out there describe the o2 sensor counter intuitively.... meaning that a bank 1 o2 sensor is really the last o2 sensor and a bank 2 sensor is the one up front near the manifold.

Yes it could. What a great question..I am sorry I do not have the answer but it is one of the better
questions ever. Someone will come along with Vadis or a tech with VIDA or you can just ask a good
service advisor to look it up over the phone

Bank 1 is always the oxygen sensor next to cylinder #1. Bank 2 is on the opposite side. Then bank 1 sensor 1 is on the front and bank 1 sensor 2 is toward the rear. So bank 1 or 2 has nothing to do with the front/rear sensor positioning, just the lateral location of it.

ok so my p1171 code(Fuel Adaption, Bank 1) and my p1132(Oxygen Sensor Front, Bank 1) are both related to my "front o2 sensor", which in the case for volvo's is the o2 sensor nearest the turbo?

another question... does the rear o2 sensor do ANYTHING for fuel metering? is it possible that aside from it's regular duty as a catalytic converter monitor, it also backs up the first o2 sensor interms of fuel metering?

No, secondary O2 strickly monitors the cat efficiency.
thanks man. hope to see ya around. I was just in ellicot city getting a tune from oliver at speedtuning. I'm trying to plan my fmic retune around a maryland/dc/nova meet so I hope to meet you mason dixon line fellas real soon.
