The transmission in my 1998 XC has been shifting roughly on the highway - it's usually when it upshifts. If you accelerate and make it downshift on the highway, then release, it makes the car "lurch" noticeably while going back into 4th.

I've taken this thing to the mechanic a few times, and each time they replace something that doesn't help the problem. They replaced 3 motor mounts, which admittedley did make the car smoother. Then, they replaced the front CV joint for the AWD system - both times did nothing to help the transmission.

The mechanic told me that the transmission fluid is fine and doesn't need to be flushed. I thought that was kind of strange considering the car is 7 years old...It has about 50k miles, btw - any insight would be much appreciated! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Flush your transmission fluid. No one on these boards believes in NOT flushing it.

Re: (MadeInJapan)

Flush the fluid ASAP and make sure that the proper fluid level is in the wagon.
If that doesn't help, you're in for a transmission

Thanks guys...I'll make an appointment in the AM - I need to get this car fixed to keep a few miles off of the Cooper S!

Flush the fluid ASAP...

And use Mobil Synthetic ATF.
I flushed mine and it now shifts BETTER than new. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
