Could it be possible that my UR pulley is causing my oil loss because of the potential vibrations and harmonic oscillations that are not being damped? I know this has been discussed before but not in the context of oil loss (I think). I would guess that I've had it on my car for about 80k miles.

Just something I thought about today and wanted some clearer more intelligent heads to discuss.

A question though for those that have had UR's pulley on for a long time: do you have a higher oil loss now? I am around a quart every 550 miles. I know...that's a lot.

I am not interested in figuring out what is causing my oil loss outside of this pulley idea right now. I plan on really fixing my R next year after getting a good mechanic to do a leak down test and go from there. (I am saving up for a down payment on a house in a few months so my money is being tied up)

I suppose it could cause a wobble in the crankshaft.. leading to bearing & seal wear, which could lead to oil loss. I would think you would have noticed the vibrations at some point within those 80k miles though. Actually, I would think it would have thrown a belt between that time.

Something similar happened to a friend of mine. Put the wrong damper on his freshly rebuilt Mopar 383 (put one for a cast crank on a forged crank). He ran it for about 6 months and noticed the front seal leaking bad. He installed solid motor mounts, and figured the increased vibrations were from that. He took off the timing cover & drained the oil pan & noticed a lot of bearing material in the oil. Dropped the pan & crank, his bearings were shot. Had to rebuild the bottom end.. again!
Could have been worse. Bad dampers have been known to split crank shafts. I don't know if an imbalanced pulley would cause the same issues.

I do have vibration but not sure if it is any more than anyone else or it could be bad suspension parts, etc.

I did some searches and it sounds like it could be a cause of oil loss based on the vibrations. Having a 5 cylinder engine doesn't help, I think.

I am just curious at this point and want to know what the group thinks.

Thanks!
