Hello all,

I'm considering purchasing a S40, and was wondering what your experience has been with the cost of service. About how much should I expect to pay out of pocket for keeping the car on the road? Thanks very much - I'd certianly appreciate any information you are willing to share.

Well, we got ours in April and so far it's been $35.00 for an Oil Change and $14.00 for a Tire Rotation and Balancing. Fuel economy is average, I'm a "spirited" driver and I really can't complain about consumption.

I've had my car for 10 months now. I have had it serviced twice (15K and 30K km). The first service cost me $175 and the second service cost me $300. Both services included full inspection and test drive plus oil change and lube as well as changing air and cabin filters. The second service also included brake pad change and software upgrades.

Wow...you guys pay that kind of money in the Czech Republic? I thought prices were cheaper, in general, there...

I got my S40 in March of this year and put 3500 miles on it. Total spent= 0

-I had two service lights problems, one fixed itself(!!!), the other I took it to service and they reset it for me. While at service, they were nice enough to oil change the car as well as wash it for me! pretty kool!

Well, a lot of things ARE cheaper here, but not if you own a Volvo... While the labor here is cheaper (my dealer charges around $25 per hour) the spare parts are just as expensive as anywhere else, as they are not locally sourced. And the dealer inflates the prices quite a bit as well... On top of that, VAT in this country is 22%!

For comparison:
1l motor oil: $11 (about double what it would cost in the store)
Microfilter: $30
Rear brake pads: $50

So you can see how quickly things add up...
